When the doctor told me my mother would die in 3 months, I was crying all the way back home. I wanted to walk, left my car in the hospital and walked all the way back home, about 5 kms., all in despair and crying.
There were people who stopped and tried to comfort me.
I do remember that.... I remember their stopping and touching my arm, giving me tissues to dry my face, offering to drive me home, asking me if I wanted something... I remember all these but I do not remember my response to them. I was so deep in my despair, I just did not want anything, not caring about anything, not needing a single thing but crying my eyes and sorrow out.

Before what?
No, seriously, when you say "in public" do you mean that people actually saw me, or just that they could have seen me?
I have cried out in the open, but fortunately wasn't seen. Fortunate, because if they had asked "are you okay?" my answer would have been a very rude and sardonic "am I okay?! I'm fcukin' cryin' here! Yeah, right. I'm okay!" and then they would have asked "why are you cryin'?" and I would have changed tones completely and said "I don't know" even though I knew but I didn't want to explain the whole situation to a total stranger, or even to someone who knew me - especially someone who knew me, given the situation.
It wasnt' the crying I was worried about, it was all the stuff that would have gone on about it when all I needed was to get it out and be over it. It took me two weeks, but I finally got over it. :)

Most definitely. I am a passionate individual who is not ashamed to display tears in public from time-to-time. The last time I cried in public was at the presidential inauguration of George W. Bush.

When I feel like crying, the last thing I care is if I am in public or not. I have cried in public when I saw my ex with his new girlfriend. I have also cried when they stole my handbag inside of which my most important documents were (ID card, passport).

Shame! Took my mother to movies to see Beetlejuice, (at the time it was meant to to be interesting). My Mum tolerated it, (as did I, JUST). Her pick next time so we saw the cinema release of The Bear. When the cub avoided the cougar, (or what ever u aMERICANS call a mountain lion {sic}), I was in emotional tears. Cryin' my eyes out having been wrapped up in the whole movie experience. Music, tempo etc, etc. Cinema lights come on bfore credits roll, I'm blubbering in full view of all cinema patrons and my Mum says, " It's Showtime".

Yes! I had the names of my Father and Mother put on the wall of Ellis Island, the port of entry into the United States when they emigrated to our country. When I read their names for the first time on Ellis Island, I wept buckets.

Yes I did, but wasn't alone in the tears. I was in a coffee shop surrounded by people I didn't know. The tv was on and the first plane crashed into the towers...
