OK, first off I want to thank everyone who helped me with all my pregnancy questions! I had a baby boy on sunday sept 30th!
Now with my actual question, I am probably being really paranoid but last night when I was changing the baby's diaper and as I went to pick him up ( thinking I had his head) his head kinda flopped far back...could I have really hurt him or would I know if I did?? I am so paranoid!!

the neck is a very sensitive part since the connection between the spinal cord and the brain stem is there. check for warning signs, like fever, discomfort, etc.

when you go to his pedia for the first round of vaccince, inform the doc about it so she could perform extra check up

I think u would have know u had hurt him...... But sometimes there head can flop far back cuz rember they can't hold there heads yet thats if your hand is not supporting the back of the head. Next time jus be more careful and support the head more.
Its ok !

Congrats... that's my birthday too!
Anyway, now to the question. No you were unlikely to hurt him. At this stage of development young babies have no control over the muscles in their neck as they have not developed enough to support the heavy weight of the skull or head. It is important at this stage that your use your hands or arms when holding the baby to support him as much as possible, this will allow the muscles to develop naturally over time.

lol. Babies necks are insanely flexible. You would know if you hurt him. They have no control of what little muscles they have there, so they are completely flexible in ways that makes you or me hurt to think of.

If you had shaken him you'd be concerned about SBS, but you didnt.

He's fine. He's not an expressionless glob of mush, he will tell you when something has hurt him.

A baby is alot more prone to that than u think. If you would have hurt him he would have let you know. But to be on the safe side, your next doctors appointment you should inform your babys doctor of it.

I agree with the other answers that said if he was hurt he would have cried. Just take it as a lesson to be careful with him, that's all. You sound like a very caring mother. Good Luck with your new bub ;)

I wouldn't worry to much because if did hurt him I'm sure he would have let you know by crying. Well, congratulation on your new baby.
