I have degrees and have avoided the certification rat race, but the Microsoft certifications such as the MSCP are the most respected.

There is much advertising, quoting that people who have such and such certification make lots of money. Remember that the first people to get certified are people with lots of experience, so they drive the average up. If you go get certified, you will not automatically start making big money.

UNIX system Admin...
Mid rage is around 80,000 top admins are over 100,000.
There are Solaris 10 Certifications/course from sun.com

While attending a university I worked with the System Admins (MS and UNIX)....and its funny cause by their Junior year they have enough experience to get a job, and make 80-90 K so they never finish school.

go to Salary.com and type in UNIX
