Probably won't do you any harm to try the cough med anyway. Doctors often prescribe them together.
You shouldn't take antibiotics that haven't been prescribed to you, for a particular condition. When the dr. prescribes antibiotics, you should take them as directed, and that is usually until they are all gone. Old antibiotics that haven't been taken should be discarded.

What is the cause of your cough? That is the most important thing to know. If you just got cough, you are not supposed to take antibiotics right away until it shows that it is due to bacterial infection. Sometimes you cough just because of mild irriattion. Sometimes you cough due to viral and yes you cough probably due to bacterial infections.
Though Amoxicillin can work as a prophylactic remedy in mild conditions, your immune system would solve the problem in mild problems.
If you feel sick and is having fever which goes after 3 days then it is most commonly due to a viral infection which does not need an antibiotics. If you are having cough and a fever which goes beyond 3 days, then it is most commonly due to bacterial infection that requires an antibiotics course for at least one week. Amoxicillin 500 3x or 4x a day for a week would be fine but it is highly advised to see a doctor for an accurate assessment and treatment of your condition.
Now for your query, it will not bring any harm to stop the amoxicillin for now as the blood level of such single dose is not sufficient enough to make any antibacterial activities; and it will not affect the cough syrup you are taking. The cough syrup actually may (either or both) suppress the cough or loosen and help in the expectoration of secretion. It has no any action against any infection, thus it is not affected by the antibiotics.
Anyway, since you got a cough just today, I would advise you to have lots of fluids, warm drinks (warm lemonade is very good), have plenty of fruit juices and oranges. That would be better than cough syrups. Try not to skip meals and have the required nutrition even if you don't feel like eating. Take adequate rest for now. Give a chance to your immune system to do the frontline job so help yourself to strengthen your immune system.

If you have been prescribed an antibiotic, you must take the full course. If you don't you can cause the bacteria in you body to become resistant.
If you just have a cough, you shouldn't be taking antibiotics anyway (until presence of a bacterial infection is determined). That is why we are having trouble with antibiotic resistant strains of bacteria, such as MRSA...people abuse antibiotics, and take them when they shouldn't.

No. Take the full course of antibiotics. If you stop the cough can get worse. You can still take a little cough medicine. It won't interfere with the antibiotics.

From my experience with the doctors.
They always REMINDED me that the antibiotic s had to be eaten as many as written in the prescription.
Otherwise, the bacteria/germ/virus will get immune to the antibiotics, and that means worse to your body,
because you have to take the heavier dose of antibiotics than before.
So, please go to the doctor to get advice.
Or if you won't, then take at least 10 tablets of amoxicillin for one case of disease.
