she doesn't like anything- as in she has no hobbies and i would prefer something of a sentimental value rather than like sun glasses or whatever. OR any of that free spa session

I gave my mother a "pink slip" for her 49th. Saying she failed the minimum requirements to join the "Fabulous Fifties" club.

OTOH it depends on what you can do & what resources you have. But maybe making her a glasses case for the Sunglasses - using a number of different suitable techniques ranging from beading, applique to embroidery.

I would suggest just draping your hands around your mother and giving her the most sincere hug of your life and planting a big kiss on her cheek and thank her and God for her being able to spend another B-day here on earth with her. I would then tell her to pack her bags and the both of you spend weekend together at a hotel; but find one that serves a full course meal so that you wont have to order our, or just simply take her to dinner.

Just remember, that u only have one mother.

This is a hard one. I'm 54, so with my adult kids, I just started to ask them for specific things I needed about the house. One year I even asked for a drill for Mother's Day (don't laugh - I do most of my own home repairs!) The kids know to stay away from perfumes (I'm allergic), but one gift they don't give me and I would like (since I'm slightly disabled) is 'help' around the house - cutting the grass, help to clean the attic, things like that. It's not the project itself, but that we can spend time together doing it. But that's me! Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY MUM!

How about a picture album or picture collage? I made one for my mom that featured the grand kids growing up , family vacations, etc.. It was a big hit. Or cook her a homemade meal. Trust me, the best gift you can give is your time!

I would go look at Things Remembered or a similar site that has different keepsake items that you can get engraved. Maybe get her a pretty jewelry box, a keepsake photo album, or a necklace. You can get her name, birthday, and a short and sweet I love you mom engraved on it.

It's a landmark birthday. I'd give her a trip. My husband took me to Paris and that was so much more memorable than yet another little gift.

Send (your dad) her flower/card or just surprise her with a birthday party.
Mothers always appreciate portraits of their families, children, grandchildren, etc
If you need an original gift try photoartomation (http://www.photoartomation.com ). They convert ordinary photo into Art.
I am very pleased with the painting I received from photoartomation.com.
