My boss is an idiot, I work in a family owned business, I am their Assistant Mgr. He is the manager, he refuses to help any customers when they ask for the mgr, I must lie and tell them he lives out of state, when he is standing right there. I must fire whomever he doesnt like that day or write them up for not doing their job, after not being trained at all. I love the job, just hate him. I was told anyone who puts their family or school before this job can leave and go to he**. I am given duties, then taken away, like making the work schedule. I was told he must approve it, but when I ask him to approve it, he says no. He will just telll the employees from one day to the next when they will work (10 employees). I come in early every day and stay late- got yelled at for that, his wife said I was unprofessional, I am on salary and work needs to be done, but I get in trouble! She was yelling at me about how hard he works (about 4 hours a day, mostly on computer IM).

He also badmouths employees, takes down my comment cards from customers praising the employees and lets his mom run the place (she is 70 yrs old from Pakistan), this is a hotel. His mom kicks people out of rooms hours before checkout time, uses the bathroom in the occupied rooms when guests are gone for the day, and sleeps in the lobby with her shoes off, and prays in our meeting room when we have meetings scheduled. I know this might sound rather obvious, but you need to find another job.
The situation where you are is not going to change, you have no prospect of advancement, and the last thing you want to be doing is writing this same question again next year.
Start checking the classifieds and move on.

I think that you should find another job. You describe yourself as a hardworking person who wants to do the right thing. Most businesses appreciate and reward people who are like you. You are being treated horribly and you shouldn't take it anymore. The previous answer with the contact info for Intercontinental is right on target. I enjoy visiting Holiday Inn Express Hotels and would be very, very upset if I was told to leave my room before checkout or if I saw the mother lying on the couch in the lobby with her shoes off. Intercontinental would get a big earful from me and I would never go to that particular hotel again.

You deserve so much more - remember that in your job search and keep repeating it to yourself over and over.

It sounds like an absolute nightmare. Money does not compensate for this. Just because they pay you, it doesn't mean they own you.

See if you can get some interviews for other jobs lined up. The day you find another job & can give your notice in, will be such a happy day for you. Your last day of employment at this awful place will be even better.

Good luck to you - you can do it!

If you feel like your salary is worth living with such a boss, then try to ignore the bad stuff your boss does. Otherwise I'd look for another job!
