"Pettite's pretty much dominated the Indians throughout his playoff career..."
Really? Let's check.
Andy has faced the Indians for three games in two playoff series, the 1997 Division Series and the 1998 ALCS. Here are his pitching lines, along with the James Game Score and game result.
1997 ALDS
Game 2 @NY -- 5 IP 9 H 7 R 7 ER 1 BB 3 K; Game Score 23; Pettitte gets the L; Indians win 7-5, tie Series 1-1.
Major suckage there.
Game 5 @CLE -- 6.2 6 4 4 0 2; GS 48; another L; Indians win 4-3, win Series 3-2.
Not bad; not especially good; solidly average, and not enough run support to make a difference.
1998 ALCS
Game 3 @CLE -- 4.2 8 6 6 3 1; GS 22; gets the L, serving up FOUR home runs (Whiten, Ramirez, and two for Thome); Indians win 6-1, take 2-1 lead.
There was domination in this game, but it wasn't on the mound. Simply awful. And this was the monster 1998 team (114-48), which went 11-2 while steamrolling to the championship. This was Cleveland's last win of the year, and Pettitte served it up on a platter.
Now, I don't think three weak showings ten years ago has any bearing on what might happen tonight; Pettitte's one of the few guys still on the same team, and I don't think any of the Indians from '97-98 are still around (Lofton is back after many wanderings; perfect choice for that funny but wearing thin DHL ad). Whatever happens in today's game is from a clean slate.
Which is to Pettitte's benefit, as the Indians have eaten his October lunch three times out of three, and his 0-3 record shows that it wasn't the Yankees bullpen mucking things up. Looking to his postseason history against Cleveland is not cause for celebration; well, not in New York anyway.
Torre continues his strange obsession with starting Pettitte in Game 2 of the ALDS, just like in 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003.

I agree, with the person who said its a clean slate. You can't look at what a guy did 10 years ago to a team, that doesn't have the original players on it. Yeah, Kenny is back but he wasn't on the team in '97. Plus, people tend to put the Yankees on such a high pedestal, but they aren't the same team they were years ago either. So yeah its a clean slate. People want to say how the Yankees dominated the Indians in the regular season, but everyone knows there is something different about the playoff games, where regardless of how you did against a team in the regular season that doesn't mean pookie duke in the playoffs.
I just hope we can keep this momentum and beat the Yankees, I'd like to see it in 3 but I'll take 4! GO TRIBE!!!!!!

I find it ironic that if the Yankees had won this game, especially by this margain, we would hear posts about how the yankees won all 6 games, their offence, stuff like that.
However, when the Indians win, those arguments aren't presented.

It's one game. One game doesn't make a series. Pettite's pretty much dominated the Indians throughout his playoff career even to a bigger extent than the domination Cleveland showed last night.
