He should be allowed to choose whatever team to root for, even if it is the Spankees.

I dont care where u are from or what professional sports team you play for....you can root for any team you want. Lebron has been a savior for the Cavs and will be a popular player if he wears a Red Sox hat the next series.
If you are a true fan of a team it doesnt matter where u are from. For instance, 90% of the people in my area are Dallas Cowboy fans, I wear my Packers stuff with pride, no matter wether they win or lose. I am also an Indians fan in a place where it is about the Braves and the Rangers. My step dad is a huge Texas Longhorns fan in Oklahoma, and wears his Horns stuff all the time.
So to answere the question.....no he is not an idiot, but he is a dedicated fan to wear something like that in a town that pays you your salary and not worry about people that will take offense to you wearing your favorite teams stuff.

Look at it this way, he was at the game. He told the reporter he has always been a Yankee fan. This is America, you have the right to like whoever you choose. Go to a ball game sometime & look around at all the different hats, shirts, etc. that you will see. Lebron plays Basketball and when he does, he gives his all. He admitted he doesn't like the Browns either, None of which make him an "idiot". He loves Cleveland & does a heck of a lot of good things for the underpriveleged in Cleveland. Who cares about a hat???

I live in Cleveland and I think Lebron feels he's so important that he can do whatever he wants. How would he feel if a player for the Tribe wore a Spurs jersey to the Cavs playoffs and rooted for the Spurs. Its a slap in the face.

Personally, I thought it was kind of funny. He's got a lot of guts to show up at an Indians games with a Yankees hat on, but I can't say it bothered me that much. I think something like this can be blown way up out of proportion. He's got a right to root for whoever he wants. At least you know he's not anti-Cleveland like the typical Yankees fan probably is.

I'm surprised so many people care about what Lebron James thinks. This is America. You can root for any team you'd like to. It's his choice. Since when does playing in the same city as your playoff-counterpart of another sport automatically make you one of their fans? I've seen Lebron wear Yankee caps a long time beforehand. He DOES like New York.

Yeah, we don't need him anyways. Did you hear that crowd last night? I've never heard such a noise coming out of 44,000 people. It sounded like a Cleveland Browns game, when the opponent has the ball and it is 3rd and 5 on the 42 yard line. I had goose bumps like 5 times within an hour last night. I can't wait until I get out of work at 5 so I can watch another schalacking of the Evil Empire. F U LeBRON!!!

Honestly? Who cares....I said the same thing when everyone was in uproar over Tom Brady wearing a Yankees hat...and I am a Red Sox and Patriots fan. As long as he isn't wearing a Bulls (or any other basketball team) hat you shouldn't care...I may have been pissed at Brady if he were wearing a Jets or Colts hat but if he wants to wear a Yankees hat...whatever....same thing for Lebron wearing a Yankees hat.

No, I give him props for sticking with his team. There is no law that says you have to support your hometown team. I'm from Ohio, and have held a long-term grudge against the Cavs for trading Ron Harper for Danny Ferry. I adopted the Spurs as my team back in 1987 and got a lot of flack this year during the Finals from Cavs fans. Now if he shows up in Indians gear for game 2...that's a different story.

YES! He is an idiot! Why? Because he is the face of cleveland and yet he is cheering for the yanks... He should'nt wore that stupid hat its disrespecting for the indians players. What if sabathia, sizemore, hafner and Co... watch a cavs playoff game and wore an opposing team's jersey? If he is a NY fan he should have kept it to his self and not publicly wishing for the indians to lose.

Hey, we love LeBron, get off your high horse. He's a good boy and this is America, land of the FREE and just because we live in a town does not mean we have to root for their ball team BUT, he does have to be a CAVs fan because he gets alot of money there.
