There's only 1 disadvantage and that is Hyundai's depreciate fast like American brands. In all other regards, Quality/Luxury/Power/Fuel Economy/Looks/Price the Santa Fe matches up or defeats every other brand on the worldwide market. Only perhaps the new Rav4 V6 is a better mid-size SUV on the world market.

The Santa Fe is one of the best SUVs on the market. The complaints poster 1 makes of the Santa Fe indicates that they are not talking about the current generation Santa Fe, or if they are, they bought the base trim. Base trim Santa Fe is a little on the weak side. The engine in the Santa Fe GLS is a 2.7 liter 185 hp V6 engine mated to a 4 speed automatic. The Santa Fe SE and Limited trims both come with a 3.3 liter 242 hp V6 that is mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission, which is powerful. A RAV4 Limited V6 is powered by a 3.5 liter 268 hp V6 that gets better fuel economy than Hyundai's V6. This is because the Santa Fe is bigger than the RAV 4 in all exterior and interior dimensions except headroom. The Santa Fe also has an optional third row. These added dimensions translates to the 300 pound weight difference between the Santa Fe and RAV 4.
The problems one might encounter with the Santa Fe will be in everyday use. The biggest problem has to do with the third row, which is too small. It is really suited to children and only for quick jaunts. The suspension is soft, one might say too soft for an SUV, but that is what contributes to the Santa Fe's lovely road manners. Legroom for front and second row passengers is plentiful, but as mentioned previously the third row is pretty tight.
A pretty good rule of thumb is never buy in the first year of a redesigned car. Usually by the second year the company works out all the kinks in the vehicle. Hyundai is one such company that is especially vigilant in improving their vehicles and addressing any problems that may occur. The 2007 Santa Fe had only one recall and it was caught before the vehicle went on sale. The fuel tanks were changed because the baffle on one side was below specifications. There were 8 technical service bulletins as well for the 2007 model. (The TSB is issued if a number of customers complain about the same problem. The manufacturer investigates the problem then sends its service dealerships a bulletin with recommended repair protocols.) Other than that the Santa Fe was a pretty successful model launch for Hyundai.

I own a 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe, and have had nothing but problems in the 5 months I've owned it. 2 days after driving it off the lot it was shaking and wouldn't hardly go so I got a $250 tune up. I just replaced the alternator last month ($200). And 3 different times in the last 5 months the AIR BAG light comes on and will not go off for weeks. Maybe its just mine is a lemon, but I am getting rid of this car as soon as possible. My 1992 Toyota Corolla gave me less problems in 2 years.

i boughtthis car before one year and i sold it before a month, the reason is,,,
-the engine is too weak compared to te vehicle weight.
-the gear is only 4-speed, which makes it slow and not smooth in acceleration and touring,
-quality of building is not as i expect,
-the brand name!
-price is bit high for a hyundai.
-resale value not good.
dont go for it ,, if you did dont blame any one but your self
