it sounds like the techs blew a instrument fuse of some sort, you could easily check that, but regardless i would make them aware of the mistake, its our duty as customers to let owners know of poor installations thier employess are doing. as for the steering controls, yes they typically stop working, there are kits that you can buy that will return the funtionality at least to some vehicals. , but i am not sure how mainstream they are and how easy they are to find, i would try googling it , or look up the #2 car audio guy "KaeZoo" i think he would know right where to find them, he is a certified installer, and buy the nature of the answers he has given, a very good one.

What happened is they used an aftermarket wiring harness that deletes yoru chimes. If you had onstar more than likely that doesn't work either. Basically what happens with all gms now is that your door chimes, light indicators, key in the ignition chime, onstar and other features are run through your radio meaning all those sounds come from your speakers instead of a separate chime module. What you must do is buy a better unit which are generally expensive. You have 2 different options as far as this goes or actually 3. They fitted you with a regular harness that deletes your chimes. The next is a relocation harness which is like 15ft long and it relocates your stock radio somewhere say under your seat and than that plugs into your factory harness and than they would wire the other end of the harness to your pioneer. The other option is a box which is actually a chime box. What it does is the chimes would now go through that. The cost difference is this though...$15 for the regular one, about 80-100 for the relocator which would be a stupid decision, or the last a chime module one that costs between 38 at walmart for some gm cars all the way up to 180. So the choice is yours, but if you get lucky walmart has a scosche one that is like only 38 bucks but it only usually fits earlier like 2000-? gm cars but you may get lucky. I did a 2007 gmc sierra's radio and the harness for it was around $170 with tax and all that...good luck with that...oh and there are ways to still have steering wheel controls, try going to a more personalized shop like car tunes or something and not best buy or circuit city as they usually don't carry things like that which would keep your steering controls. What they do is you program the wireless remote from the pioneer and using ir remotes you program each individual button on the steering wheel to coordinate with the remotes buttons....make sense?
Simple version you need to invest more money into the proper wire harness that has a chime box. You will also need to get a ir transmitter that sends the signal of your steering wheel controls to a ir transmitter that sends a signal to your pioneer via the wireless remote basically...

The factory steering wheel controls are probably not compatible with an aftermarket radio but I believe Pioneer has their own type of controls for certain model radios that can be mounted to the steering wheel...they might be able to figure out how to accomodate the factory control setup with the Pioneer radio. The chime not working is probably due to some power lead being cut or disconnected when the radio was swapped. Have the installing shop double check the wiring.

well that shouldn't happen. the stereo shop whom you took your car may be didn't do a good work or they forgot to connect the unplug wires so if i were you I'll take my car back to the shop and tell them the problem. they should fix it and i hope you got your receipt so if they don't do nothing to fix the problem you could sue them and remember that when you car is done from mechanic body shop or local stereo body shop. remember to check all the wire and see if all the power are working so you can tell them to fix it right away that works with me because some of local stereo shop trying to do that to me but i don't want to gave them a chance. so be smart next time because its your money and your so use it smart.

sounds like the techs at the place you went to didnt do a very good job...id call the place and ask to speak to a manager- explain your situation and they should be able to fix that for you- installing a stereo shouldnt affect these options on your truck.......the techs probably diconnected or forgot to connect things when installing the stereo, but once again- it shouldnt affect your other options....good luck

it could be missed wiring connections or the fact that they had to bypass certain components to make your new deck work properly.
