im in adelaide Australia, everywhere i go there is cops trying to fine ppl left right and centre, there is speed cameras, RBTs, drug testers, traffic cops, motor bike cops, everywhere i go, they just dont seem to be doing anything else except trying to get money out of drivers. rego, license, taxes, etc etc it goes on and on.
i just feel like i am a honest good person, not a criminal, why am i annoyed at cops? the criminals willsteal a car, have no licence, drink drive, speed, then rob a store, beat someone up, if they get caught, they wil ge nothing but a slap on the wrist.....
im sick of it
am i the only one that feels like this?
is it only like this in adelaide or eveywhere else in the world?

You're not alone, it's the same here in the UK!! I 100% agree with you, the question is what can be done about it??

I don't know the statistics of how many criminals have been caught by traffic cops but I'm sure there are many. Criminals don't care for laws so they will break them on the road as well. How many criminals flee the seen of a crime by foot if they can get their hands on a car? I know you are pissed off with the slap on the wrist they get, but that is not the cops doing, that's the court system and/or the laws made by politicians. The last thing I would like to see is total anarchy on the public roads. Traffic cops prevent this.

Traffic law enforcement is a valuable tool for police to use in finding criminals...many traffic stops will catch a criminal that may have gone on for weeks or more with regular police methods. Criminals have to use cars to get around and usually are not good at obeying laws anyway so it's a good, efficient way to catch them. If you're not breaking the law, you have nothing to worry about. Cops don't give criminals a slap on the wrist---the courts and judges do, so maybe you should complain to them. Cops are only enforcing laws that are passed to protect the regular citizen.

It's possible you are aren't aware of the number of people who are killed on the roads every year. People are constantly killing themselves and others by speeding, drunk driving, running red lights, running stop signs, poor lane changes, drugged and sick drivers, falling asleep at the wheel, following too close, going too slow on a freeway--the list is almost endless. I don't know about Australia but in the US more then 50,000 people are killed every year on the highways and streets.
The work the police do on the streets IS real work. If giving a ticket can wake someone up to the the dangerous way that they are driving and save even one life then the inconvenience is worth it.
I know it's annoying and takes a bite out of your finances but that's the point. It's to get people to stop doing the stupid things that they do on the road that endangers themselves and other people. I know that if you were to find that you were responsible for taking the lives of a family in another car because of something that an officer might draw to your attention, that paying a ticket would be insignificant in comparison.

If people would pay attention to traffic laws and drive like sensible human beings, police wouldn't have to spend so much time on traffic detail.
Seems pretty sensible to me, but millions of people just don't get it.
I got a speeding ticket in 1984. Doesn't seem like over-enforcement to me.

Im in Adelaide to.... someone broke into a freinds car when it was parked at gym...... so what we did was wait a few weeks.. put another ashtray full of coins in there & watched the car. on the fifth week.. shure enough the idiot came back to break in again ..

Im a firm believer in the baseball bat... works much better than calling the police....

So Im glad there not out there looking for me.... let them chase the speeders...

Publis safety IS the job (one of them) of law enforcement. Drive according to the rules and you probably won't be one of those people pulled over.
