first off, I LOVE your display pic...that book/movie is amazing!
While I still think that Fujis are better cameras...Canons do make wonderful digital cameras, they're such a popular brand because of their wide variety of choices...it's hard to not find the "perfect" Canon for you. I think they became a leading brand because of their quality cameras and their prices.

Not necessarily. There is not such thing as the 'best' camera - just best photographers. Canon make good cameras, at very high prices, for professionals. I venture to suggest that at amateur level there is very little to choose between makes. The reason they are a leader is due to clever advertising, sponsorship etc., just like any brand leader in out commercial. consumerist world.
Ignore comments which suggest Canon and Nikon are good because they have been making cameras 'for a long time'. So has Pentax, so has Sony (which acquired Minolta) so has Hassleblad, so has Leica and indeed Kodak has probably been making them for longer than anybody!

Canon and Nikon are considered the leaders i the digital camera world. Other cameras come close but are not the best. One reason Canon makes such a great product is because they have always been in the camera business unlike Sony, Kodak and other brands that try to win over customers. Canon makes also great quality lenses especially in their high end SLR cameras.

I don't know if Canon makes the best digital cameras. If you're talkin' SLR then yes Nikon and Canon. Point and shoots, and spending over $200 Canon would have a tough time of claiming the best verses Sony, Fuji, Nikon and Panasonic.

They are very reliable, good quality, solid builds, good images, nice features, and they aren't way more expensive than other brands of the same quality. You would have to get a pro-camera in the other brands to compare to say a canon powershot a640 with is a snapshot camera. (I have the a630)

i don't know about the DSLR level camera. in the ps camera i guess because they push the technology pretty hard like they always have new model coming out to replace the old one with low price.

I think its due to the high quality optics-their lenses are superior to most others in the same price range. They offer many powers of optical zoom plus digital zoom. Lesser cameras rely on only digital zoom.
