My husband and I were cleaning out our basement so, we decided to sell off some of the more decent stuff for some extra cash. We have never had any problems on Ebay. We always advertise the item as detailed as possible, with photos, etc. We have all good ratings.
Anyways, I had a lot of baby things from my daughters (the youngest is 6 now). I put up a stroller for auction. It originally cost $150 new. It was used for 2 years, the fabric and wheels were in excellent condition. It was stored in my basement though for about 2 years as well. In turn, it developed that musty basement smell.
I didn't feel like putting in the effort of cleaning it. So, I cut my losses and put it on Ebay for $1. I also advertised it as an item coming from the basement that WOULD require cleaning and that we were not responsible for this.
Some lady won the auction (it was up to $5). Then she went on vacation! We were nice enough to hold the item for her for 1 month until she came to pick it up.

She came and got it. My husband even carried it out to her car for her. She had every opportunity to inspect the stroller on the spot but, she didn't.
1 day later, we get this nasty e-mail from her claiming that every cent she paid for this stroller was too much. She couldn't even use the thing because it smelled too musty.
My husband being the level headed one wrote her back saying that he was sorry she felt that way but, we had advertised it as a basement item that needed cleaning.
I, on the other hand, wanted to rip her a new one (excuse my language). 1. It was advertised correctly and if she knew how to read then she would have seen that it recquired cleaning. 2. It came from the basement. What do basements smell like? Certainly not roses. 3. It was a $150 stroller that she got for $5. You can't expect the world for that. 4. We went out of OUR way to accommodate her vacation plans and we were still more than polite to her.

5. Has she ever heard of an upholstery cleaner? The stroller was in excellent condition. If she cleaned the musty smell out of it then it would be almost brand new.
So, what do you think? Were we in the wrong or was she? How would you have handled this lady? Thanks!
P.S. We checked her ratings on Ebay after this encounter and come to find out, quite a few people left comments that she was difficult to deal with. I hope she doesn't try to give us a bad rating now!

You have done nothing wrong. You advertised the item clearly and correctly and completed the sale as any decent seller would. This woman is obviously trying to get one over on you. Explain to her that if she has a problem with her purchase then to go through the proper routine and file a complaint. Ebay will then look into it and realise that she is causing a fuss about nothing.

Have her bring the stroller back and giver her the $5. It's only $5. You could donate the stroller to the Good Will or a womens shelter who would be happy to clean it up and you'll feel good about making the donation (and don't forget your receipt for taxes).
You are in the right here not her, if you offer to take it (which I doubt she'll return it) there isn't anything else you can say except if she posts negative feedback you can say you tried everything to rectify the situation even though you didn't have to. Makes you seem really reasonable to deal with.

Some people are just always out to make trouble or get stuff for free. She probably hopes you'll give her a refund so she has the stroller for nothing at all; like $5 isn't a great deal already! Don't worry about her, you handled correctly, she's the one who's being difficult.

I had similar problems once with an ebayer and a craigslister. Some people are just not on the same realm of thinking as others. You guys did just what you should, would, and could do, and then some to please her. She just sounds like a rotten crab apple. The only sucky thing about it is that it is possible that she may leave you a negative feedback w/ ebay. Once people look at your 1 bad score and check into her history, I dont think you will ever have a problem. Good luck.

I think you are completely right and she is being very unreasonable! She can't expect you to cover her loses because SHE didn't bother to read the appropriately detailed description you included for the item! That's certainly not your fault! More so I think you went out of your way, above and beyond what you had to to accomodate her needs and life (holding the stroller while she went away, allowing pick up, etc).

This woman to me sounds like one of those people that everyone finds it difficult to get along with and who always has something to complain about! I hope everything turns out well for you, if she leaves you negative feedback you can always apply to ebay to have her feedback removed and I am quite sure they will agree with you and remove it because it would be unjust negative feedback. Good luck!

I would contact the seller and explain the situation. Maybe they have another jewel case they can replace that one with. As far as feedback, I'd give a positive feedback if I was happy with the game and the response of the seller to my jewel case issue. I would mention the shipping conditions if I were not satisfied with the response. The game works and you were happy with the price.

You and your husband are totally in the right! You have gone beyond what a seller would be expected to go. Don't give in to her demands. If she leaves you bad feedback, contact e-bay and ask to have it removed. You can have a clear conscious because you have not done anything wrong.

She's definitely the one with the problem- you advertised the product correctly and she was fully aware of the details when she bought it- she's saving $145 on the cost to boot!

I would have taken the stroller back and given her her $5.00.
