i had a friend who was WW2 veteran who is now deceased.
he was a black man and we were very close.he talked to me
alot about things that he didnt talk about with most people.
like events that he witnessed and was part of in the war.
he also talked about how things were in america back then
concerning african-americans and how they were treated as
if they were a lower class of people and didnt have the same
rights and privileges such as their access to certain public
places , restrooms etc.
here was a man who had served his country, risking life and limb everyday fighting for the freedom of others, and yet some
that he had fought for treated him as if he were inferior to
them when he was back in his home country...the same nation and people that he had fought for.

racism is a terrible thing...what are your thoughts?

I basically, agree with you. Of course, racism of some kind has existed in all countries and societies throughout history. You will never be able to extinguish it entirely. Nor are Americans the most racist people in the world. There are at least several other nations in the world that out do us.

There is also the phenomena of "clanishness" and "tribalism" where even people's of the same race often hurt, fight and kill each other. For example, the blood feuds among the Albanians, the Sicilians and the Japanese of Samurai times. Or the rivalry between the Hatfields and the McCoys in Kentucky. Or the genocidal wars between the Tutsis and Hutus in Rwanda.

However, I do think we can control the worst excesses of racism as exemplified by the terrorism of the Ku Klux Klan against black citizens in the American South of the segregation era, the internment of Japanese - Americans during World War II, or the Nazi holocaust against Jews and Gypsies (Roma) during the same war.

These things need not ever happen again and hopefully we will learn enough from the lessons of history so that they never do happen again.

Racism is only a sign of inferiority contrary to what it appears. The world is a much better place now than it was two decades ago...with globalisation all kinds of people traverse the globe and hence things are only getting better. I have travelled quite extensively and I feel I have never experienced anything untoward...of course there will be some stray incidents but by and large I feel people are learning to respect each other as humans first.
Being literate should help change for the better but yes! it can be quite depressing if you are treated differently because of some standards set up by insecure people.

In history slavery in the states is still a recent thing. The civil war was fought only about 150 years ago. The effects will take at least another 100 years at least. Maybe even longer.

I live in Australia, and feel very lucky to live in a multicultural society and one that is forever expanding. At my daughter's school there are kids from 13 different nationalities which are all explored and celebrated, enabling the children to be open-minded, accepting and culturally aware of others.
I am white, so have never really experienced racism here in Aus, but I have a lot of indigenous friends who experience it on a regular basis and its often violent in nature.
I can't fathom disliking someone based on the colour of their skin....ever.

Galatians 3:28-29 says: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise.” †

So in God’s eyes no race is better then any other race, we are all the same in Christ. †

I see some answers on here saying that it is just human nature; this is not true. Racism is not human nature; it is a behavior that has been taught and passed down from our ancestors. †

Yes, anyone that judges someone based on his/her skin colour, religion, sexial preference, son & so forth, is a rascist.
But I think we have all been guilty of this whether aware or not.
The Quest, is to be aware & make the needed adjustments.
While true race based attrocities are unacceptable, the reality is that it will take many generations until we percieve the truth.

Its so stupid I really don't like to speak on it. God created Adam from sound clay and from Adam he made his wife Eve. and from these two people the world is heavily populated. God tells us that Satan is a plain enemy to mankind and to not submit to him by acting on his whispers and ideas. Satan instills racism into our hearts so man can hate one another. We all was created by God. We live and we die. Who has time for this. Thats like gangs that fight over colors. How stupid. Each person has their trial and tribulation here on earth and its a test for us. All I can say is that in the end the wrong doers are going to be humilated and the thrown into the hellfire.
