How likely is it that my girlfriend, in her position, could gain access to my email?

Don't dogg me out about this. It's a valid question, no assumptions necessary.

none whatsoever. Not unless she has access to encryption software and knows how to hack.

It sounds like paranoia and not knowing about the Army. The Army does not go snooping around people's email. They monitor emails out of combat zones for security, but they do not go into peoples accounts. The FBI does that once a threat is identified. Most of the time, the email is detected in cyberspace, not in the account. Its the same method that identity theif's use. I would be more concerned about the guy down the street then your girlfrind unless there is something you are not telling us.

Saying she's "in the Army" is a broad brush.

It depends. If she is a cook deployed in Iraq, almost certainly not.

If she's a Colonel assigned to Intelligence or detached to the NSA, then the probability goes up considerably.

Whether she is in the army or not is irrelevant - she can just get a cracker and get into your e-mail, its not difficult.
