It is a bad habit, but could you have been a bit more diplomatic? I know, I tried your approach with my dad. He still continued to smoke up to the day he died from bone cancer. It started with his throat, went to his lung, his bone and then his brain. He died in the most horrible way and I will always blame the awful cancer stick. I respected my dad, but I did hate his smoking. He started his habit in WW2 when they passed out cigarettes with his meals. His nerves were shot from fighting in the war and he took up this life long habit that he was not able to kick. You must remember that most people do not really know what they are putting in their bodies.
Some people try to quit but have a hard time with it. Maybe we can be a bit more supportive of their efforts without being judgmental?

I find you repulsive for being extremely disrespectful to those that really -can't- quit cold turkey. For myself, there is nothing wrong. I know it's a bad habbit. No people don't find me repulsive. I do have the guts to quit, I have before once for a year, a second time for six months, because I felt like it. Few, if any, have left my side for smoking. In reality 99.9% of the world doesn't respect you, me, or any one person since they don't even know you, me, or any one person! You make me cringe with your rude assumptions of other people's lives. It's not like it's not uncommon for people to smoke in this world. In THIS world -most- (NOT ALL!) people have smoked at least once in their lives. Are you going to hate every single person for lighting up in this world? Well guess what? More people could care less what you think. Why are -YOU- going to worry about other people's habbits? Do you bite your nails? Think about how disgusting that is, and unhealthy. Or do you drink? Think about the damage you do to your liver, how ugly and disgusting you are when you get plastered, how your breath stinks, how you stumble and sway, how you slur your words, how you drool, how you pass out in the middle of a conversation. I could think of more if you wanted me to. Point attempting to make: Worry about your own bad habbits before you bash on others, and don't say you don't have any 'cause -everyone- has at least one bad habbit.
Another point: Don't assume about anyone's lives, not a smoker's, not a drinker's, not a nail biter's, etc.
Final point: Fact: Not everyone cares about what you think, remember that.
***Edit*** Ole Baby B: Therefore leaving you to be addicted to that in the end.

So are you implying that Native American's, who smoke tobacco as part of both social and religious ceremonies, are filthy, repulsive, and not worthy of respect also? Or is your little 'born again non-smoker' diatribe limited to cigarettes?

I don't find people who smoke repulsive...isn't that pretty judgmental? You have the option not to stand next to people when they're smoking, so I don't really see how it affects you. Nicotine is a physical addiction, people can't simply stop doing it just like that. Anyhow, if they wanted your opinion they would ask for it, otherwise mind your own business.

MMMmmm... tobacco... contains arsenic and radioactive elements. They say smoking gives you a higher dose than those who were exposed at Three Mile Island. Personally I think they would be better off smoking used toilet paper... really. As another poster who quoted Gump said, "Stupid is as stupid does". Just another form of slow suicide.

I suggest to those trying to quit to use CHantix. It is awesome and works better than anything ever imagined. It fills in the receptors in the brain that the nicotine once did, and therefore ends cravings.
