I've noticed that a lot of atheists who accuse some Christians of trying to force others to believe in the Bible sometimes force their own ideas on others as well. For instance, in a lot of debate forums, sometimes you'll see people making fun of someone saying they believe in God, and they'll say things like "What a pity, you're just believing in a lie" instead of being respectful and open-minded to everyone's beliefs. I'm not trying to point fingers or blame anyone, but I just want to know why it's unacceptable for a religious person, usually a christian, to talk about their beliefs, but most people don't get angry when an atheist says stuff like "the bible is full of crap" or "people use religion as a crutch in their life" ?? (by the way, i am in no way saying all non-religious people are like this. i'm just saying, there are quite a few people like that)

if one don't know what the truth really is, how will that one recognize a lie? religion is whatever one believes in.
getting to the slam on Christianity, not everyone that confess to being a Christian is really a Christian. real born again Christians don't have to speak often, all they have to do is to let their life speak for itself. in America there are to many of the so called Christians that the the lost people see trying to force [not Christianity] but their ways on them and that's why we hear so much negative things about Christianity. if love for our fellow man do not abide in ones life wherefore did the new birth come in? without forgiveness what change have been made in ones heart? without mercy what good is ones faith? if we say we have the LIGHT [JESUS] why then should we live in the dark? [sin] so let our LIGHT shine as a house on a hilltop that all shall see and glorified our FATHER in HEAVEN. how can one say they love GOD whom they have never seen and hate others that they have seen? these are liars and the truth doesn't abide in them. live your life the way GOD have set and let HIM judge in the end. a farmer will never try to seprate his young crop from throns and weeds, that will be done when the crop is harvest. the same with people, GOD will septrate us when it's time, so let us all live here togather until harvest.
i have learn that those that beg most for mercy, give it the lest.
what is bound on earth is bound in Heaven. what is loose on earth is loose in Heaven.
so pray one for the other that you wavery not from GOD and that your faith in HIS SON will pervail.......bless you all.

In a debate, it is an exchange of ideas.

However, hypocritical comes in when what you do and what you preach isn't consistent. Being open minded does not mean I have to believe whatever you said, that is believing blindly. Open minded means you are open to fresh evidences to what you do not believe originally.

For example, if you tell me I should believe in god. I say no, that is not my cup of tea. Then one fine day, you bring this god guy to me and say, look, here is the evidence, this is god and he perform to the level of my satisfactory that he is god, I will believe. This is being open minded.

However, if you tell me I should believe in god and the only proof you can give me is to have faith he existed, then sorry, no my cup of tea. That is not proof. It is as good as telling you that you should believe in Ninja Turtle because you need to have faith they exist. That is what I call blindly believe.

Anyway, I am fine with religious people talking about your god. I just don't believe in it, but I do mind if you start to pull me into the water by saying I will be going to the hell your all forgiving god made for people he cannot forgive, and the people are those that he made NOT to believe in his existence so the prophecies he put down can be fulfilled. However, he does make any attempt to show he existed.

I agree and have been saying that in a lot of my answers.
Just look at some of the answers you have already received. Some are saying that they do it because there aren't as many atheists, so they need to do it. And look what thewolfskol said. That it is about evidence, thewolfskol says that we have none but yet doesn't go on to tell us his evidence. If an atheist is saying that we are mindless and stupid to believe the way we do, then they are trying to make us believe the way they do, what is the difference? And I agree that not all do that, but some do, just look at your answers, as I have already said.

There's no need to get angry. Generally when people run out of logical arguments they start attacking the person. We don't put up with it in debate class but it's part and parcel of Internet forums like this one. It demonstrates a lack of substance to the person's argument and therefore doesn't really carry any weight.

To differ:
I believe in discussion in respectable language in a polite manner, but in no way do I believe in
"being respectful and open-minded to everyone's beliefs"

Would you like to come round on Saturday? I'm having a barbecue while I sacrifice my first-born to Moloch.

(An extreme example to make a point, but there are plentry or real beliefs, and actions resulting from them, that deserve no respect. Understanding, possibly, but not respect and open-mindedness)

WHAT one should believe is up for debate, and yes, it's fine for Christians and everyone else to discuss this. Insult then hangs on the manner in which it is done.
Flaws and faults there on all sides.
(I strongly dislike Richard Dawkins' manner and tone, however much I can see the weight of his arguments.)

It depends on whether the same person doing the accusing is also doing the ridiculing. Personally, I don't like any argument when a group is singled out and someone uses the term "a lot". When you're a member of the group being criticized, it's hard to view the person's argument as being objective.

the hot international Pilgrims have been Puritans and have been element of a strongly conservative stream in England and different aspects of Europe popular for its intense pias nature (denying excitement). even with the undeniable fact that they've been respected for there self administration and must be very perplexing workers, they have been seen such kill-joys that they've been thrown out of england and Holland for being so preachy. some have long gone so some distance as to declare that the Puritans have been given excitement out of being so holier-than-even with the undeniable fact that which might lead them to hypocritical. it relatively is such as the concept that many cutting-edge American evangelists can carry forth Jesus as Love then turn around and say that each and one and all gay human beings could desire to be punished for being gay.

That's not forcing our beliefs on believers... that's stating a fact. People DO use religion as a crutch in their life (my own mother admitted this to me... she'd be lost without her religion, she couldn't continue to live without it). The bible IS full of crap... scholars and scientists have proven that most of what is in there is physically impossible in real life (which is what it supposedly documents).

Meanwhile, we are told we will burn in hell for not believing... we are forced to say "god" when we pledge allegiance to our country or acknowledge when we use our money. Put "Allah" on there instead and YOU'D be raising a fuss, too, claiming that you shouldn't have to acknowledge that "god" over your own.

No, we are not being hypocritical. We have analyzed your behavior and your belief in god, and found it to be ridiculous. We are stating that fact.

there is diversity of beliefs as in any walk of like. we learn from our school, friends, books and others coming in contact and form opinion. nobody can say with certainty that he is absolutely correct. one can only say that based on his knowledge, experience, perception and understanding he has a particular view of things. we should carry free exchange of opinions on all matters without showing contempt for any person or way of thinking. all are members of the same society and same human race whatever be the ideological or other differences. this applies to believers and atheists alike.

They have to excuse their rejection of Christianity for one reason or the other. Some reasons are valid (I met a bunch of Christians we were very hypocritical) verses invalid reasons. If they don't have valid reasons to go to then they face:

1. If the scriptures are true... garsh, I would have to repent and change my ways.
2. If the scriptures are true, I could be damned,
3. If the scriptures are true, then I have been fighting against the truth.

Nah... can't do that, attack the messenger, put on the blinders, pretend it never happened.
