I've set up alerts on all three credit unions and have monitored my cc's for any abuse. It simply doesn't seem to be enough. Any suggestions (other than obvious stuff like being careful with my ss and other confidential info).

If any of the cards are being used, ask that the card be closed and a new number be issued for that reason. You have done what you can to block new cards from being issued in your name.

Why wouldnt that be enough? Has your info been stolen? Dont be one of those people that panics every time the news says things (remember y2k?) Nickels dont give you cancer and cell phones dont make your hair fall out. And if all your accounts are flagged (and most banks will report suspicious activity to you immediately anyway) you're as good as youll ever be. If you really want to be safe dont use banks or plastic at all. Cause when the depression hits, all those will go down anyway. Along w/ your ss.

I saw an interview with Frank W. Abagnale, the author of the book, "Stealing Your Life: The Ultimate Identity Theft Prevention Plan," that seemed very interesting. He was a former con man of every type, and has written this book giving inside information. You can also look up his name of Wikipedia to get his background credentials. Check out the book at Amazon. It's $16.47, and very highly rated. I plan to purchase it myself
