Why is running away from home considered childish?

When people find out I ran away from home, they give me funny looks or remark that it was a very immature thing to do. In my case it was either leave secretly or get screamed at and beat up in the process.
Some kids are better off 'running away'.
So why is there such a stigma of immaturity attached to it?

Because in most cases it is an attempt to run away from problems that could have been solved differently.

If you are leading a happy and fulfilling life now, because or in spite of running away then you're one of the very few. You are the exception to the rule and it shouldn't matter to you what other people think. You know life would have been worse if you had stayed so quit second guessing yourself. Above all, be honest with yourself no matter what truth you need to face.

If you are being beaten, then please tell your school counselor and she will help you find resources to get you out of that environment.

I wouldn't say it is immature, but kids who run away from home are usually endangering themselves and making themselves prey to predators and manipulators. It simply isn't safe to just run away without a plan or a place to stay.

But your counselor can find emergency housing for you, as well as perhaps a judge who can order your parents to take parenting classes, or get you a mentor, etc, etc.,

He/She is there to help you!

I know people who saved their lives by running away. It depends upon the reasons for running. Some people do it for attention, but for many, it's a necessary means of escape.

Yeah it's not childish to run away from abuse, I challenge anyone to not want to run away if they are being beaten everyday.
