There is no annual heartworm injection. There was an injection that was given every 6 months, but it was taken off the market after a number of dogs died after receiving it.Monthly pills are easy to remember as they come with reminder stickers to put on your calender.

Probably, but I would give the vet a ring and see if this is toxic and what can be done to counteract the medicine. Generally, a double dose of medicine will not hurt an animal but the Yorkie is so small that you should find out the side effects and made aware of any danger signs. There are many ways this could have happened including the larger dog not swallowing the heartworm medication. We always try to avoid problems however accidents can happen. Good luck!

There is no annual injection that is actually effective as a preventative. If only done once a year, that leaves plenty of time for heartworms to mature and then it becomes treatment rather than prevention. It also gives the heartworms enough time to KILL your dog or severely weaken it.
Monthly treatment is the only form of prevention.

I was told the last time I went to my vet that they stopped the injections because they were having problems with it so I would think you would be better off doing the oral heartworm pill.
I found the injections to be nice because I did not have to give them as often but I think many vets are going to stop the use of them.

We use HeartGard in the winter months, which is oral ... but for 9 months of the year, we use Revolution, which is topical. I like Revolution because it protects against fleas, ticks, heartworm, and intestinal parasites. Takes 3 seconds to apply, given on the same day each month, and it's done.
It is peace of mind for me. I've never heard of an injection (sorry) but I like giving the all-in-one treatment. In the long run, it probably doesn't matter which method you choose, as long as you treat for heartworm-prevention year-round and for fleas/ticks/intestinal parasites as recommended by your vet. Revolution, I've found, is most convenient for me.

Im not exactly sure, definantly ask your vet. Why not use the topical, such as Advantage Plus or Revolution? Sounds much less invasive, and they treat ALOT more than just heartworms. I would double check.

Never heard of or used an injection. I just use the monthly chews. Never had a problem so if "It ain't broke, dont fix it" works for me.
