Hi, I was in a bicycle accident when I was 7 and lost my two front teeth. I have had a flipper since then. Then when I was about 14 I had to have 3 root canals done on my two teeth right next to the flipper and one molar. I take good care of my teeth but they are super soft and my dentist recommened getting a bridge because one of the root canals now needs to be extracted...so that will be 3 teeth I'm missing in the front and then I will still have 2 root canals. My teeth are always in constant pain and are EXTREMELY sensitive. I just want to pull them all and get dentures but I don't know how much it would cost...or if its the right thing to do. I'm sick of dealing with all of this and I'm only 25.

Anyone have any ideas or suggestions???

Getting dentures does NOT necessarily reduce pain. Dentures make it difficult for you to eat certain foods, and it's easier to trap food in the crevices causing bad breath if you don't immediately brush your teeth after each meal. You are only 25, I would try to keep as many teeth as possible because once you pull your adult teeth out, they will never grow back. Just think it through, you dont want to live for the rest of your life w/ dentures if you don't need them.

Also, I would recommend venures if you can afford it. Look at your insurance plan.

Best of luck to you!

First and foremost find a dentist that specializes in making dentures. Many are so poorly made and look fake. A good specialist will add details to make them look like natural teeth. Look for a dentist who offers permanent dentures. This is fairly new and a great advance. Hygienically, it is best to remove them at night and soak them in a good denture cleaner. You don't want denture odor, which can be very strong and obvious as to what it is. Besides soaking, they need to be brushed with a denture brush with the cleaner as tarter does build up if they are not taken care of properly. You jaw line could change or you could get creases at the sides of your mouth. Talk to your dentist about changes. A little cosmetic enhancement can fix that. Now, if you are getting the lowers pulled, do everything you can to save as many of those teeth as possible. With regular dentures they don't stay in as well without being anchored to other teeth. Good luck. You will not need denture adhesive if they are made correctly with a good fit to your mouth.

Talk to your dentist about adult sealant. Most insurance will not pay for it but the benefits of saving your own teeth make it worth it. If you have your teeth extracted, you will eventually suffer permanent bone loss - bone resorption - in both jaws, and your dentures will eventually have nothing to support them. Also, without your upper teeth, your lips will pull in, and you will develop premature wrinkles around your mouth.

SOMETIMES THIS A WISE OPTION, BUT IF YOU CAN SAVE SOME TEETH AND HAVE PARTIAL DENTURES INSTEAD, THIS IS A BETTER CHOICE.
THE WISEST CHOICE, BUT MOST EXPENSIVE IS IMPLANTS.
