(Luk 16:23) And in hell (the grave) he lifted up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. (This parable is often used to support a literal hell, however, it must be noted that these passages are a parable..a story used to illistrate a point though not too clearly because it invokes thought. There is usually much symbology used..just as it is here.)

(Act 2:27) Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell (the grave), neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

(Act 2:31) He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell (THE GRAVE), neither his flesh did see corruption. (This verse is speaking of David's hope in the resurrection read the whole thing)

(Rev 1:18) I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

(Rev 6:8) And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.?

(Rev 20:13) And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell (the GRAVE ) delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

(Rev 20:14) And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (If hell IS a lake of burning fire...then how could it be cast into itself??? Tricky!)

Hell is mentioned in the bible several time, but it is not the same place, They have been using the word hell, for all the places. You have to know the what the verse is talking about.
The word hell is an English word, which means a hole in the ground(Grave). Hell is where we all will go, and sleep until, the second coming of Jesus. The next place, they use the word hell( it is Hades), the ever lasting fire, where all those that sin, and don't repent, will be thrown in to burn and die.

I do not know where hell will be located and do not really want to know as there is better things to know. But what the say about hell.
The Bible speaks about a place of torment at the final judgement of all mankind. It is called “The Lake of Fire.” At the Judgment of the Great White Throne, the souls in hell will be united with their bodies, which are to be raised from the graves. Christ will then pronounce the final sentence of judgment upon the wicked dead, and they will be cast into the Lake of Fire, the eternal abode of the lost. Revelation 20:11-15. Hell may thus be likened to the local jail where the prisoner temporarily awaits his sentence. They are taken from the jail to appear before the judge for final sentencing. Revelation 20:9-15 is the record of this Great White Throne Judgement of Satan and all who have rejected Christ and followed him. The Lake of Fire may be likened to a prison to which are committed those under sentence for the duration of their eternal existence. In describing hell, our Lord speaks about the undying worm and the unquenchable fire. Mark 9:43-48. It is a place of conscious punishment. It is a place of literal fire. It is punishment for sin eternally.

In the book of Revelation, the phrase "forever and ever" is used to describe the misery of the lost. Revelation 14:11. Can a God of love allow men to go to hell?

God does not want men to perish. Heaven and Hell are both personal
choices that each individual makes while here on planet earth. God provided for man's salvation through the work of His Son on Calvary's cross. Romans 5:6-8. If men reject the Savior, they go to hell by their own choice. Someone said that God loves the sinners so much that if they choose to go to hell rather than heaven He will let them go. Remember that they all go by their own choice.

hell is a real place, but it exists in a spiritual plane. It's not like you could find it at Yahoo maps. My personal feeling, based on historical accounts, the Bible, and a first-hand encounter with a demonic spirit, is that it is found deep beneath our feet and accessible by us only after death. The Bible states how to avoid such a fate. Since the earth is a half-way spot between heaven and hell, and spirits have more mobility than us physical beings, the good and bad spirits can freely roam with us here, mostly unseen, and that's why it's so important to declare your allegience to a Bible-based church. You DO want to see heaven, right? I wish you well.

from Vine's Expository Dictionary
Sheol
(Strong's 7585)

The 65 occurances of this word are distributed throughout every period of biblical Hebrew.

First, the word means a state of death: "For in death there is no rememberance of thee: in the grave, who shall give thee thanks?" (Psalm 6:5; cf. 18:5). It is the final resting place of all men: "They spend their days in wealth, and in a moment go down to the grave (Job 21:13). Hanna confessed that it was the omnipotent God who brings men to sheol (death) or kills them (1Samuel 2:6). "Sheol" is parallel to Hebrew words for "pit" or "hell" (Job 26:6). "corruption" or "decay" (Psalm 16:10), and "destruction" (Proverbs 15:11).

Second, "Sheol" is used of a place of conscious existence after death. In the first biblical appearance of the word Jacob said that he would "go down into the grave unto my son mourning" (Genesis 37:35). All men go to "Sheol" --- a place and state of consciousness after death (Psalm 16:10). The wicked recieve punishment there (Numbers 16:30); Deuteronomy 32:22; Psalm 9:17). They are put to shame and silenced in "Sheol" (Psalm 31:17). Jesus alluded to Isaiah's use of sheol (14:13-15) in pronouncing judgement on Capernaum (Matthew 11:23), translating:Sheol" as "Hades" or "Hell," meaning the place of conscious existence and judgement. It is an undesirable place for the wicked (Job 24:19) and a refuge for the righteous (Job 14:13). Thus "Sheol" is also a place of reward for the righteous (Hosea 13:14; cf. 1 Corinthians 15:55). Jesus' teaching in Luke 16:19-31 seems to reflect accurately the Old Testament concept of Sheol, it is a place of conscious existence after death, one side of which is occupied by the suffering. unrighteous dead separated by a great chasm from the other side peopled by the righteous dead enjoying their reward.
