I was reading about how sugar sends your body on an insulin rollercoaster ride. Would cutting sugar and eating a normal amount of fat make you loose a lot of weight? Or would it be better to cut fat and eat a normal amount of sugar?

You actually need a healthy amount of both. It's not good to completely remove any particular food group from your diet, as that starves your body of that nutrition.

That being said, if you want to lose weight, exercise is a really good (and safe) way to lose weight. In addition to that, I would recommend meeting with a nutritionist or dietitian to see if there is something else that may benefit you more

Simple sugars, like the ones found in candy or soft drinks, not only mess with your insulin levels but are converted by the body into fat. It is important to get some carbs into your diet daily but I would cut back more on sugar. Just don't replace it with extra fat! Too much fat is bad also.

If you want to lose weight, you have to cut both fat and sugar. When sugar is not burned off as energy, it turns into fat, so they are both bad when trying to take weight off.
The most important thing to look at is calories. Many times, packaged foods will market themselves as "lowfat" and if you'll notice, the've replaced it with more sugar, so it's still high in calories.
Try to avoid both, and treat yourself once a week to whatever you're craving the most.
