asalamu alaikum
May God guide my words as I try to answere your question.
First of all, it is important to understand what is meant by the term "Son of God". When we say this phrase we are not meaning Jesus sprang from the loins of God or that God had sex with Mary. Such a claim would be horrible.
Instead, the term refers to Jesus' role within God. This brings us to the trinity. When we refer to the trinity (which is a man made term, not found in the bible) we are realy talking about the oneness of God. God is one God that exists in three roles: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
God is perfect, but we are imperfect. And us such we are unable to fulty grasp God and his message in it's wholeness. This is why God presents himself to us in three roles and while it is impossible for a man to truely interact and converse with himself, there is no such limit on God.
In the case of God the Son, his role was not only to die for our sins, but to live for them as well. Every day he made the choice to submit himself to the Fathers will, unlike we do when we sin. He lived a perfect life where we had not.
In this way his role as the Son is as an obedient son to his father.
As for proof, I can provide none but the words of God himself and if you do not accept that they are in fact the words of God, then my proof will be of little value to you.
None the less, God (in the role of the Son) said, "I and my Father are one." (John 10:30)
There are others, but this puts it very nicely.
As for the early church expecting someone to come, this is absolutly true. However, they were not expecting a person.
Throughout the New Testament and even in the Old Testiment we are are told that Jesus himself would be comeing back. In Matthew chapter 24 we are told about this comeing, that Jesus would be comeing in the clouds. In revelation we're are given a detailed account of this event and the events surrounding it. And there are many other places in the law, the prophets, the writeings, and the gosple that this is recorded.
The early Christians were not merely looking for another prophet to come, but God himself to bring an end to the sin and abominations of this world, to judge all humans, and to usher in paradise for all believers. It is to this that we continue to look.
May God guide you into all truth and bless you all days.

Early Christians were waiting for the 2nd Coming of Christ, as are Muslims.
Muslims recognize that Jesus is the Messiah. This is official Islamic teaching. Unfortunately, they just have not understood that the Messiah is God Himself.
Muslims also mistakenly think Christians believe God had sex with Mary to make Jesus. We do not believe this. We believe that Jesus IS God. When God come to us in the form of a man, we call Him Jesus. The title Son of God is an ancient way of describing His nature. We also call Him the Son of Man for the same reason.
It's like if you call someone the son of alcohol, you mean they are an alcoholic.
Jesus healed a blind man. No other prophet in history did this, all the Jews were waiting for this sign. God had said that this would be the sign of the Messiah.
Also, Jesus was raised from the dead. No other person in history has been able to conquer death in such a way. God have powerful evidence through the resurrection of the authority of Jesus.

The Quran does not say that Jesus is the son, but a messenger.
Christians are taught differently. They are taught that he is the son. Muslims claim to believe in the bible yet they deny the divinity of Jesus as the son. Jesus himself said God was his father. This does not make him God. It makes him the first born son. There are many other books that state that Jesus is the son. Like all beliefs. It take faith and acceptance to the teaching. If you cannot believe in the words of the bible then Muslims do not accept it. So if you do not accept it, then no proof will be accepted by you without faith.
The bible says that Jesus will come back with a different name.
The Book of Urantia, I invite you to read about the life of Jesus. This information was given by the angels and tells that the first born son of God was named Michael.
I think possible Jesus will return with is first name. Michael.

God tells angels to worship Him:
6 And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says,
"Let all God's angels worship him." (Hebrews 1 & Psalm 45)
God calls Jesus God:
8 But about the Son he says,
"Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever,
and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.
9You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness;
therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions
by anointing you with the oil of joy."
(Hebrews 1 & Psalm 45)
Jesus says that God is Spirit:
24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." (John 4)
Jesus calls God the Father:
John 20:17
Jesus said, "Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, 'I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.' "
Jesus says that the Father and him are one:
30 "I and the Father are one."
Jesus calls himself 'from everlasting to everlasting ':
58"I tell you the truth," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" (John 8)
Jesus is in Daniel 7 as the Most High, having a separate set of independent actions from the Ancient of Days:
13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.
21 As I watched, this horn was waging war against the saints and defeating them, 22 until the Ancient of Days came and pronounced judgment in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came when they possessed the kingdom.

1st corinthias roughly states..the head of man is christ, the head of a women is a man, in turn the head of christ is god. trinity is a false manly doctrine, and the bible clearly states several times god is the father of christ. in addition christs clarifies...the father is greater than the son. god sent jesus for a purpose. to cleanse mankind of sin..he was the second adam as the bible puts it.
