Everything you think you know about your religion comes from a mere book?! A book! Just a plain poorly translated book?!

Seriously there is only a book... Nothing else!
No research, no data, no testing...
All you can say to back up an argument is "read the bible"!

You read it, or it was read to you when you were a kid, and you simply think its true?!
I will NEVER understand this... unbelievable.

Yes i read the bible. MANY times.
I went to sunday school as a child, and catholic school later.
History books come from many different sources. Many different books. History which is researched. Not just simply believed to be true. You dont think the scriptures of ancient Greek gods is real do you? No, because there are no facts behind them.

Ever take a world history class? Did you learn about world history by reading a history book? Most people did. Or- are you able to travel back in time? There are thousands of other books, articles, radio, TV, movies, and more on the subject of God/Jesus Do you doubt all of them too? Poorly translated? Try reading other versions. Try listening, watching other Christian programing. Poorly translated? How do you know? Have you actually read all of it? Or-were you there and know that what is written is incorrect? There were no cameras, radio, TV etc. at the time of Christ. How else were things to be relayed from one generation to another? Yeah, the Bible is a written book but, Christ did things in front of witnesses. I can see the hand of God in nature in life, love and salvation. Can anyone really recreate the human eye just as our eyes are today. Can't do it? Nope, nobody can. Why? Maybe God had something to do with it after all. Not only the Bible but eastern history and other (non Christian) religions record the person of Jesus Christ as well. No research? You have got to be kidding me. PS the things that are supposedly known about evolution (the big bang theory) came to your attention how? Reading it in a book? Yes. Someone talking about it? Yes. Does that differ from what a Christian do? I don't think so.

The book has been around for so very long, that it has become a book of truth and faith for many.

The research and the testing are in the fact that... the book remains a popular topic of conversation for both believers and non-believers.

You are correct, it is only a book and the translations are numerous.

For those of us, who have reason to believe and maintain faith in a mere book....please respect our choices. Some of us will never insist that you read it.

I would prefer that you find your own path and your own reliable source of information and your own experiences, so that you are comfortable with your own faith.

The bible is one book....but it is not the only book.

Peace!

This is whats wrong with bible based christians.
They read, interpret and study the bible on their own. They are so confident about their intellect that what they see from the bible is the right one. They never thought that satan has mastered the bible every verse, every translation more than they do. They never thought that satan can plant doubts in their minds.

The Roman Catholic Church doesn't only use the bible.. She has kept her traditions . She is the only witness. She has investigations... data.. and history.

There is research (Darwin's research was case studies, and thus no more rigorous than that of the ancient followers of the three religions that follow Abraham), there is data (some actual, some fantasy). Testability, of course, is a problem.

The problem here is that the believer accepts the bible as evidence, and you (and I) do not, that is all.

The book you refer was first shared by words. People lived them and were inspired by the spirit to write them down. If not for books how would we remember the past. If not for history books how would we know about our past. I'm curious have you ever read the bible for yourself, not listen to someone else but read it yourself. Start with the Gospel of John then Hebrews, then Galatians. See if you want to stop after that.

Actually, the Bible is not just a book. It is God's word that instructs me, uplifts me, gives me hope, and shows me the way to my Father.

You have probably have never read it yourself if you had you would see that all that evidence & the creation itself bares witness of God. Your just like all the other so called athiest you think that denying God is cool not realizing that you are jepordising your souls.

The standard answer is " its called faith."
This is a cop out as that cannot be proven either.
I like your style. get this. I work with an engineer who deals with proven facts on a daily basis but still tries to convince me the bible is unquestionably the truth. His standard answer to my asking for proof or even just some common sense is " its faith." Either I am completely ignorant of what faith is or he is full of sh*t.

Faith is powerful my friend, and reading or hearing the truth is self evident to me. I know the Bible is true because I can sense it. I know that some translations are problematic, but at it's core, it is a beatiful book of redemption and forgiveness. What is wrong with that?

I see what you are trying to say and I agree however that does not prove them entirely wrong. It is still possible yet extremly unlikely that it exists same with every other religion and theory. That is how I see it.
