you haven't put forth any convincing arguments as to why the ten commandments should be in public spaces, especially because of the issue of separation of church and state

Dude, read the bible and you will understand.....
The Fulfillment of the Law
17"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.
Because people do not read the bible, in their ignorance they listen to others opinions and believe instead of doing the research for themselves... I gave you this verse, because Jesus obviously shows that the law (10 commandments) were not taken away. Jesus said I did not come to take away the Law, but to fulfill it. I guess people do not understand the definition for fulfill. Many, many people, try to do away with one of the most important commandment s the 4th,. God so clearly says to Remember it, but people continue to scoff it away. God makes it so clear to everyone all through out the bible, that He never took it away.
10 commandments Exodus 20
James 2:10
10For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.
Malachi 3:6
Robbing God
6 "I the LORD do not change.
Jesus says If You LOVE me keep my commandments, let them not be burdensome to you.
In Mathew 22:40 Where Jesus says Love your God with all your heart and withall your soul and with all your mind, This is the first and greatest commandment.. The Pharisee, who had classified over 600 laws, often tried to distinguish the more important civil laws from the less important, Jesus quoted this same verse which is an Old law too, Deuteronomy 6:5,6 and Leviticus 1:18. By fullfilling these two comands, a PERSON KEEPS ALL OF THE OTHERS. They summarize the 10 commandments (Gods Moral Law.)

The Catholic church has been around for about 2000 years now ... ever since Jesus founded it.
Blame Jesus.
He's the one who said the law would last until the end of time ... unless he perfectly fulfilled it. Then he went ahead and did just that ... putting the law "out of business".
Try to keep the old law if you want. It never saved anyone and it won't save you.
Jesus saves. Not any law.

Galatians and Romans is clear when it says that Christ nailed the law to the tree and it has been done away with. I didn't say it, Paul did. The law is no longer a requirement for acceptance by God. I know that folks don't like to hear that but the ten commandments are part of the law that has been declared to be done away with.

Pop... there are actually 613 commandments in the Old Testament. No one can live up to them all. That's why we need a savior. Not to do away with the commandments, but to forgive us for our perpetual failure to be able to comply with them. Jesus Christ is Lord!

News flash.
That covenant law did indeed lapse upon the death of Christ, who was the god who made that covenant with Israel.
If you don't believe this, then please explain how one can be held to the conditions of a covenant they were never a party to.
This covenant was replaced with a better covenant based upon better promises.
But if you prefer that which is inferior to the new covenant, knock yourself out.

Since that teaching was written by the Apostle Paul, it's safe to say that it's been around since the first century.

Actually, you've answered your own question. The hell is going on, that's what. People do not want to come the light because they don't want to be held accountable for their actions. Jesus is coming soon.

Amen to that †
Some people say that because Jesus died on the cross we are no longer under the law of Moses. However Jesus said in Matthew 5:27-28 “You have heard that it was said to the
ancients, "You shall not commit adultery." But I say to you that whoever looks on a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
He also said in Matthew 5:43-45 “You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy." But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who despitefully use you and persecute you, so that you may become sons of your Father in Heaven. For He makes His
sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the
just and on the unjust.”
So really Jesus made some of the laws even stricter then what they had been before, but He in no way said that you no longer have to obey God’s laws. However he did do away with a lot of their man made rituals.
This misunderstanding comes from what Paul said in Romans 6:14 “For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under Law, but under grace.”
Now I believe what Paul was saying is you’re not controlled by the law of sin; but you are controlled, by the Spirit of Grace.
