Acts 11:26 (KJV) states:
26And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
So the first word of Christian is used in Antioch. The word Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ. Yes the word Christian is very misunderstood. I know that a person who follows Jesus Christ teachings should be called Christian. Yet humans are still able to flaw, that's why we are saved by grace not of good works. John 3:16-21 explains very well.

The Word Christians does a poor job of describing those who are followers of Christ. There are many who use the moniker but worship Idols, Mary, reject the Bible as authoritative, and teach the traditions of men in place of the commandments of the Lord.
There is no word that can truly describe who real Bible believers are anymore. They have all been corrupted by bad testimonies.
There is only one thing that can help us. Good testimonies. People who live their lives according to a faith based upon the Word of God will earn nick-names in their time as well.
I am glad there were people who earned the name Christian in the past. Whatever new names this generation dreams up, I hope that we can earn it by our lifestyles.

Christian means to be Christ-like and to be a Christian, like it has been said, you must follow Christ. Please don't disagree with the one Book that gives us the understanding of what this your question means in order to give it to you. You said that the Bible knows nothing about the "hyphenated" use of Christian, yet, you are asking the very people who read the Bible. That is weird to me but God bless you anyway.

Well you might now want to ask me because according to soo many christians, many on this little message board, I am not a christian because I am mormon despite the fact that I belong to the Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latterday Saints.
I think a christian is a person that believe that Jesus was our savior and that thru the atonement we can live with our father in heaven again.
I dont think other christians have a right to proclaim someone else is not a christian. What gives their interpretation of the Bible any more authority than mine?

As it is in the Greek, 1 who follows Christ. be it all are not within the battle as in the past being murdered by those who hated Christ. But more of the battle is within and not seen but real no less. After all these years they have caused many to question GOD. Is he real or fake, he is not in religion, he does not like to share his throne!
It is that people have so much choice, as anything in this world they abuse it. As we are his children and many act it out by their ways and words which has more power than realized till its to late. He watches and judge as he feels or gives grace, a lot of us are still breathing his breath till he wants it back. Use what you have with wisdom, you only have it for a short time, you will see him when its gone. You have his spirit too!!
Its not a word, its a life, a life style many fail at trying to live. But the try if real is worth it.

This is exactly why Christ is coming to take the Church out of the church. Yes there is such a word as Christian and there are persons who live according to the principles outlined by the Bible. I am one of them
God bless

Do you actually want a definition of the word "Christian" or do you just want to use this platform to belittle
and judge other people that you do not understand? What if persons would pick apart your faults and parade them around like y ou were less than acceptable? Mind
your own back yard.
Definition of Christian:
Followers of Jesus Christ
became known as Christians
in the 1st century after the
death/burial/and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1. Believe that the God of the Bible is indeed God Almighty; i.e., omnipotent, omniscient, and immutable
2. Believe that the God of the Bible gave us Jesus to save us from our sins and conversely He gave us TO Jesus
3. Believe that without the saving grace (unmerited favor) of Jesus, His cleansing blood, and His sacrifice, that we were all doomed
4. Believe that even as Christians, like pagans, we have indeed fallen short (FAR short!) of God's glory and are indeed worthy of hell
5. Believe that the Bible is God breathed, or the divinely inspired word of God
6. Believe that there is NOTHING that we have done or can ever do that will make us worthy of heaven outside of Jesus Christ (justification by faith and faith alone)
