I bought a used small 98' two door car for 1000 bucks next door and it is immaculate but small. Everyone advises you need a new car...but I already have another 2000 two door car.
I switch using cars, both immaculate and around 97k miles..both dependable, both paid for. I don;t want to get a larger newer veicle and pay a car pymt...spoiled or what?

Note: All extra monies went to good use..while no car pymts..I've paid down every single debt on my credit..almost to zero now. I'm smart, I believe. Instead of racking up debt..I focus on eliminating all debt...it's just a stigma that I've been on.

Used cars that are paid for. My money is better saved than spent on a new car that I will ultimately get tired of anyway.

If you have the money, it is always better to pay in full. The only reason not to would be if you are trying to establish credit to purchase a home later. If you do not have the money, or if paying in full will financially stress you, then finance part of the payment amount. Most people finance car purchases. Just do not finance it for so long that you get upside down (the car isn't worth what you owe) before it is paid for. And if you finance, be aware that you cannot just sell the car, you must sell it so that you can pay the bank back. I generally will not finance any vehicle for longer than I plan on owning it.

I would rather have a new car. First of all, why do you need "a few" cars? You can only drive one at a time, right? And nothing with 97k is immaculate - MAYBE on the inside, but the engine didn't get through 97k without a scratch. If it were that perfect, they wouldn't have sold it. You WILL have problems. This is about the point where they start nickel and diming you to death. Plus you're now insuring "a few" cars instead of just one. And where are you parking them? My neighbors subscribe to your idea, and have "a few" old junkers per person, all parked in the driveway and the street instead of inside the 3 car garage (go figure). Looks trashy and lowers everyone's property values.

As a young man I moved from what I could afford to what I could afford. Lots of headaches and repairs. I did most of the work myself. Over the years I've built a fully equipped garage with everything I need to replace an engine or just an oil change and it never cost me the difference between a new car and a "beater". I haven't spent on tools and parts what it costs for sales tax on some new cars in 20 years! My most recent ride is a '99 Mazda B2500 pickup. I got it for 10 grand with 36k on it. It has 136k on it now. I replaced the brakes myself, it's never needed a tune and doesn't now, I beat it like a rented mule and it lives for the punishment and still looks nice. I don't buy "image" I buy cars that work and do what I need to do. I'm 56 now and I can still rip a motor, build a short block and drop it in before you've got time to sign the papers at a dealer for a rip-off deal on a piece of overpriced iron that isn't worth the pain you suffer to look cool in a ride.

Dont listen to everyone else keep your cars that are paid for and maintain them with regtular oil changes and other basic service, dont go with what every one else says and get a new car that the payments for you even with good credit are going to be around 300 a month or more and in most states you must carry full coverage insurance which bumps up the monthly payment on your car another couple bucks which in some situations can be as hig or higher then a house payment. keep your cars and be happy just remeber preventive maintanence is always better then repair

I do not know your financial position but with those miles you will soon be spending money. Practical would be to get new car with warranty and lease it so you will lower payments and always have a car under warranty. You can lease for 1,2,3,4,5 or sometimes 39, 54, and other terms. Do not worry about mileage since 95% of people trade in leased cars before lease is up. If you believe the car is not yours leasing, it is not yours if you finance until end either.

You doing the right thing. I myself prefer to have a used car that is paid for allready. Because having a car that you owe is a nightmare. You have to be worried about paying a monthly bill. Take care

There are merits for buying a new car and a used car. A used car is affordable for small budgets while a new car is for big budgets. I would rather use the 2 cars and maintain them until such time when it costs more to own them than buying a new one!
