I am in Washington state which is pretty western if you mean part of USA or part of world.
Here seniors live just like young people until they can't because of health or money.
My grand mother dated after she was widowed and my mom does too they both date younger men. Grandma died but mom is still dating the same younger man and he will be 75 and she 81 this month. They each live in a 3 bedroom house and other than being retired do all the things they ever did until they can't. Mom can't play golf now and is starting to need some help around the house. He has vision problems and if is not getting worse yet, they have considered shacking up to they can help each other.
I knew an Arab young man who was scandalized that a widowed grand mother would date.

I think Eastern countries treasure their elders and allow them to be a part of the family. Here in North America young people (not all) think that as a person ages ,their IQ diminishes and we should not have an opinion on current events or even have the audacity to want to live in our own homes for as long as we can.

My experience on the East Coast of the USA is similar to your first answerer...

Otherwise I would guess differences have to do with the relative culture of the geographical area/country and how seniors are viewed...revered or discarded or somewhere in between.
