I'm looking for a tv to buy for my parents for christmas. I want to get something big and possibly a flat screen. but I want something that's not going to break after two years. What's the best brand and type of tv to get? It's time for them to upgrade from the tv they got in the stone ages.

Stone Age...(laughs). Flintstones, Meet the Flintstones....

Ok, Here's the BEST BRAND for the BEST TYPE of TV. And the MOST Reliable at the Top of the list

LCD PANEL TV -- Sony (get the 120 Hz refresh rate model)

CRT Projection -- Mitsubishi
(I have the Hitachi Projo -damn good investment and VERY reliable/low cost)

DLP -- Mitsubishi (the only reliable DLP on the market)

LCD Projection -- Sony (the lamp is being replaced with a solid state LCD lamp in newer models, try to get that)

Plasma -- Panasonic

TRY to stay as close to the top of the list as possible.

My NEXT TV will be the Mitsubish LASER DLP...they are going to be the BEST picture and Best reliability in the long run...

But right now, I chose the CRT Projection TV set, due to its reliability and COST...
I don't think they make CRT Projection anymore, and that's just SAD...30 years of technology, coupled with a 1080 picture, and the ONLY failure point on them is the Convergence amplifiers....the cheapest to maintain over a 12 to 18 year lifespan.

LCD panels should be the MOST reliable, and DLPs are so low maintenance that I will have one of those in my home as the MAIN TV set.

A lot of people will probably say Sony but Samsung tops down is the best. Samsung LCD TVs was voted the best selling TV by consumers.

Sony is just a well-known name, but Samsung in my opinion is truly the best. If you're looking for a long-lasting Television, Samsung has at least a 27 Year life.
