Who doesn't want to live forever?

Survival is a very strong instinct. That is why so many people wish to embrace a doctrine that convinces them--evidence be damned--that they will live after they die.

Wanting to live forever and actually living forever are two different things though. No one is foolish enough to believe that simply adopting a way of thinking will make your wishes come true. If god doesn't exist and Jesus didn't rise again then there is no afterlife. Atheists don't believe in god or the divinity of Jesus, so believing in an afterlife would be futile.

It is not that they do not want it, it is that they don't believe that will happen. I became a Christian when I realized God and the spiritual world are real. But it took me a while to fully believe, because I needed my questions to be answered in an honest way. And they have been answered that way! but it took a time; although, God is faithful and he answered my questions one at a time ( I realized the answer in one way or another). I wouldn't recommend anyone to be atheist; but I wouldn't recommend anyone to be dishonest intellectually, either.

By the way, there is eternal life, but not reincarnation.

What does wanting have to do with it? I want 1 million Dollars, i want to engage in some naughty activities with Jessica Alba, I want to see my dead loved ones again... I just find any of those scenarios to be highly unlikely.

Of course I'd "want" it. Wanting something doesn't change how unrealistic and implausible it is. I "want" to be able to eat all the chocolate I want with no ill affects, but that doesn't mean it'll happen.

I think they want to they just don't believe it. They are still searching I think...That is why they seem to be soooooo offended when somebody talks of God or the Bible.

Sure, but they have things like intellectual integrity and emotional fortitude. They may want something, but they are smart enough to realize that wishing for something doesn't make it so.
