Pigs, especially smaller breeds, do make great pets. They're very intelligent, love people, are friendly, etc. One thing you have to check into is local laws. Where I live, for example, pigs are all considered farm animals and are not allowed in residential areas. It's an outdated policy from 100 years ago, but nonetheless, it's law. My father raised pot-bellied pigs for a while, they were SOOOO cute, but when they're young, they sure can scream... like bust your ear drums loud. But if they're socialized by a responsible breeder (not my dad lol) they should be good by the time you get one.

I had a pot belly pig once.
it was a great pet: very loving and you could walk it like you would your dog, also very intelligent
the only thing I didn't like was that it rooted up my mothers garden, and the only way to keep it from smelling was to give it a milk bath every once in a while
if you don't live in a farming community then it might be difficult to find the appropriate food, bedding, toys, and vet care however I lived in a farming community so I never had those problems
I loved having a pig as a pet
however, if you're planning to do it, then you really need to read up on pig care and responsibilities BEFORE buying the pig otherwise you'll be in for a rude awakening

You wouldn’t believe the amount of laws there are about keeping pigs. Every time you wish to take off you land, eg for a walk you have to apply, then you can’t take it from your land for another 28 days I think. You can only transport them with a trailer specifically designed for pigs, you have to get permission to take them out in this also. You cant take them to the vets, the vet has to come to you. The list goes on and on! I was looking into getting pigs a while back, because a house we were interested in buying had a pig sty, and I thought it would be really good, but there are so many rules it would hardly feel like a pet, you probably have to apply for permission to stroke the dam thing every morning!

Probably, back in the 80s, Vietnamese Pot Bellied Pigs were very fashionable as pets. Sadly a lot of them ended up in rehousing shelters as their owners found them hard to cope with.
I imagine they can be smelly and I'm not sure if you can train them to do their "business" where you want them to, if you get my drift. They also need plenty of space so not suitable for a small backyard or a flat! If you live in a semi rural area with lots of land or a big garden it might be OK.

yep of course! my friend's had a pig farm in South Africa and there was this blind piglet that they decided to hand rear, and she lived in the house and followed them around and was just like a dog. When they moved to USA, they were so tempted to take Penny (the pig) with them.
