Really, what does it hurt?

Whether you believe in the power of prayer is insignificant. What matters is that the person making the request *does* believe that prayer has the power to heal, to change things. Why answer if all you can add are harsh words and bad feelings.

Most people who scoff at prayer respect meditation. The two are not so far removed. Both relax the mind and body, lower blood pressure, instill a feeling of calmness, and allow for solutions to problems to be seen once the mind becomes cleared, and the person is able to focus.

You might know it as "the power of positive thinking."

Whatever you call it, whatever you believe, can you try to be respectful to those in need? It wouldn't hurt, and it might even help.

Just thought I'd throw this out there.

There was a girl asking for prayer for her teacher, and she received some rude answers. Not nice, guys. Hence the reason for this question.

Long time no see, Uhoh! How have you been? I've been just wonderful, and I hope the same holds true for you.

Of course this isn't a forum for prayer requests. It's also not a forum for talking about Chuck Norris, Aaron Carter, bran muffins, and a whole bunch of other things. Yet we do it anyway. All day, everyday. Point is, hurting people are reaching out as best they can, so let's play nice.

I'm not passing out the thumbs down. My apologies.

Don't worry about the people who give rude and nasty comments. They need prayer too.

That's really sad that people do that when someone is reaching out. It's kind of pathetic too, when it's coming from people who demand respect for their own beliefs (or lack of) and then they treat others like that. Makes it hard to respect them. Personally, I don't "Pray" in the Mainstream sense but I often hope for the best for the person in need, even if I don't agree with their personal religion. Religion doesn't matter in this case... it's the individual that matters and out of all of the bragging about "I follow a religion of love" or "I'm a Humanist" etc... the sure don't show it when they do this...

Violation? Who cares? How many times have we seen some crazy questions and people answer them just to have fun? But when someone is in need they get snubbed? No wonder this place is falling apart.

I agree. I asked the same question before. It's not the right time to voice your opinion about there being no god or whatever. If someone is hurting, what's the harm in being just a little kind. You have many opportunities to share your opinion on other questions. When someone asks for prayer, I usually just post to let them know I am hoping for the best or sending good thoughts.

Wow, how wonderful and peaceful the whole world would be if we all respected each others religious beliefs. I personally have Muslim friends, and Hindu friends, and Buddhist friends, and atheist friends, and agnostic friends. I myself am a Christian. We all get along and respect each others' beliefs. They are all very nice and gentle people. We help each other out. They are like my extended family. Sometimes we talk about religion and the differences/ similarities among them. I am fascinated about different beliefs. Would I like everyone to be a Christian?.... sure.... but, I accept that everyone is entitled to believe or not believe what they want. I answer questions, if asked, but do not try to force my religion on anyone.

How about a world where people of different peaceful religious/nonreligious beliefs could co-exist (and i do stress PEACEFUL) without hurting each other? That's a world I would be proud to live in...

Thank you for having the courage to speak out on this issue because prayer "still" works miracles and kindness is never a waste of time. God bless you!!!

Many people were taught as young children "If you can't say something nice then don't say anything at all". I would love it if they will remember this - and learn to follow this rule.

well said ...
it harms no one... even if you dont believe in it
and I am sure anyone asking for prayer will make sure that the people needing it will also seek out the medical attention they need
it hurts me when I see nasty remarks made to those asking for prayers ... or worse still , when they are reported
there are many things that are not " legal " in this forum but are reported constantly
my hugs for instance

prayers , hugs , good wishes are all spiritual
and what better place to give them out than on a religion and spirituality forum

you are an angel xx

I always offer my hope and good wishes for a positive outcome.

I agree with you that asking for prayer is not grounds for rudeness. On the other hand, I am fully aware of the fact that prayer only does good for the one praying and perhaps for those who are aware they are being prayed for. So for that reason I see a call for prayer as something akin to spam. That doesn't warren rudeness though.

You have a heart of gold.. :)

When we had speak like a pirate day..I even joined in..which has absolutely nothing to do with religion or spiritually.. :)

When I posted a prayer or thought request for our sweet "Friend" Gnostic..It was well received and answered by others of all different faiths and beliefs..

The barrier between us came down, even if for but a short time.. :)

Only a very few, said something that was rude.. :(

Thank-you for asking this question..you touch my heart deeply.. :)

I agree with you, BUT if we don't remind people that this is not a prayer request board, it will be overrun. I kind of wish people would remind them a bit more nicely, though, because people requesting prayers are usually hurting already. I tend to finish a mild reprimand by telling them that I'm a kind of witchy agnostic sort, but if they would like, I will pray for them.

They some time fell not worthy to do that.
or you blame them with this request.
but the Bible said in James 5:16
Therefore confess your sins to each other( layman to priest and priest to priest) and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
