You do have to stay on guard with what you look at, read, and listen to. Not knowing a whole lot about the magazine in question, it's hard to really give a definitive answer. However, the internet is not Christian based, and not all of the information on it is Christian information, and as long as we are watchful of what we do on the internet, I don't believe it is wrong to use it. Same with the library, grocery store, and numerous other every day things we all take part in. But you should also beware because there are lots of things that society sees as normal every-day stuff that would be harmful to your testimony. Just ask yourself...
"Will this glorify God?"
"What does the Bible say about it?"
"Will this harm my testimony?"
"Would I want God, my Pastor, or someone from my church to see me doing this?"
The answers to those questions will tell you all you need to know.

I think that God would want you to have the freedom to read what you want to read and watch what you want to watch! Christianity isnt about rules and regulations. Its about heart. Continue to read your magazine Firstly because you obviusly want to. Secondly so you are not cut off from the world. Reading non Christian things is a good way to be 'in the world' You never know God might use that magazine and the contacts your husband has in the industry to spread the word. The industry certiantly needs to hear it. If you really want a Christain music magazine Ask your worship/music. Use you husband talents in music for the good of his church!

Good for you!! God is changing you from the inside out, and it is reflected in the things you are feeling. You feel conflict with this magazine, and so it may be hard but it would likely improve your walk with God to just let it go. I understand this might not be easy, I have the same kind of conflicts myself, we all do. But letting any element in your life that is not pleasing to God is like a chink in your armor that the devil may try to exploit when the time is right. Perhaps your fiance could find the same kind of information about things from online forums without the negative message.

Here is a great resource that contemporary christian worship leaders use:
www.worshipleader.com
You can go to that website and subscribe to the real magazine.
www.relevantmagazine.com may also have some good information about music.
I have used both of these professionally, as have other Christian musicians I know.
The other magazines he's already looking at may be ok, as well. Just use discernment.

Well you said early on in your question that your fiance subscribes to them to keep informed on changes in his profession. It's no different than a Doctor learning new techniques or a Chef creating a new dish or an attorney studying new laws. He's only keeping abreast of change not utilizing sinful lyrics or chanting in the moon light. As long as you keep Christ in your lives, repent when you slip up (we all do) then things will be fine. Perhaps God will take what your fiance picks up in an article and give him a better way to use it.

I think it depends on whether he feels it is a distraction to his growing faith. If there is offensive material in those magazines that may stunt his spiritual growth then better to not subscribe. However if it is strictly a trade mag and he needs the info then there is no harm in getting them. My husband is the tech man for our church and we get a magazine called "Church production" which is a magazine dedicated to sound systems and lighting innovations currently being used in a church environment. It may not have everything he is looking for, but it has new products and articles related to the tech side of music production. Hope this helps.

Look into the trade magazines and go from there. If your fiance already has brand preference on his instrument, then he is more likely to benefit by learning how to share his musical offering to a wider variety people in a number of different venues. Start here...the subscription is free.
Good Luck !!! And blessings upon both of you.

Sounds to me that you are focusing to much on the "Christian" aspect of life instead of the "God" aspect of life. I think that you should tone it down. I think that "Christian" anything ( music, tv, books, etc) are unrealistic. In fact, I have found that rarely am I moved when reading or listening to those things. It is the events, music, and novels of the "secular" world that I can see God working through the things that are said and done. My opinion is this : Just because it says Christian doesn't mean that God is there. Just because it doesn't say Christian, doesn't mean God isn't there either.

Jesus came to give us life & life abundantly. Now that you are christians you can use some of these methods to play christian music. Just keep focused on Jesus, you have the Holy Spirit to teach & guild you. When in doubt the bible says if in your heart you are doing wrong than it is sin. Read proverbs 3:5&6. Peace,Love & Blessings.

There is a website called www.christianmusician.com where you may be able to link to Christian music magazines. Keep up the good work. God bless.
By the way, it thrills me to see new Christians really determined to let Christ be the center of their lives. You will never regret it.
