We have 300 employees. We're in a citrix environment with load balancers, lots of mcse's, etc... Anyway, simple things such as Microsfot office, excel, etc.. can take a long time to respond. So we're thinking about staying on the citrix platfor, but also installing copies of Microsoft Office on every user's local PC. Does this make sense? Thanks.

Well, simply it would be yes in terms to being able to open the software quicker. In terms to maintenance and deployment, i would think this would be an IT nightmare. Maybe consider your infrastructure. It might be altogether cheaper if you upgrade to gigabit NIC's and Switches, etc. Than buying all those licenses from M$. There are many other variables that can slow down a software over a network connection, but considering your infrastructure would be the first place to start.

We have a much larger installation of Citrix, and Office 2003 or 2007 (both are installed, along with a ton of other programs) and on the local network it is pretty much like using those programs from the hard drive. Over the Internet, it is a bit slower but nothing to complain about.

Ever heard of OpenOffice? It's unfastened, and it involves phrase processor, spreadsheet, presentation program, and extra. And it is suitable with Microsoft Office dossier codecs. You might additionally take a look at AbiWord; it is a unfastened phrase processor.
