That is, will there ever be a day when atheists rule the world?

And if so, when?

My guess - no more than 200 years

They already have, in more intelligent countries. (Literally countries with a higher median IQ)

If you are wondering if the number of atheist will ever surpass the number of theist, a look at history will show that the ratio between the two has remained pretty much unchanged through all of recorded history. Look for example at the USSR. After 70 years of atheism, and at least two generations raised with no belief in God, church, etc., the government fell and within 5 years the number of theist according to pools with over 70%. (Almost the same as the USA).

Atheist government have been tried several times in the last century, including the USSR, China, North Korea, and Cuba. The results were nations that managed to slaughter over 28 million people in less then a decades (not counting those killed in war). Compare that to the worst century of "killings" by a religion, the 11th century with the fall of Jerusalem in 1095. The number killed (including war) was a little less then a million. So that gives the atheist governments a 28:1 kill ration victory over the worst religion as ever done.

Hopefully there will never come a time when atheist rule again. The world might not survive it.

I think they won't. I'm not saying that the Christian God will be the God of choice ( I apologize to all Chritians this could offend) but I think having God, any God is not a bad thing and also if you ever apply Christian principles to your life they are not an abhorrent thing , they are rather pleasant. Again, no I don't think God will disappear anytime soon. I mean anybodies Gods, we so need them.

They very might rule the world, but what I find hard to believe that 95% of the world believes in some sort of higher power. How can 5% of the world tell the rest of us that we are wrong?

There will always be a higher percentage of religious people than atheists... Once Christianity runs its course something new will pop up.

There are more fakes in the Christian ranks than there are real Christians. So in a way you could say there are more atheist than Christians.

Try something like 2000. Christianity is still growing in 3rd world countries where the birth rate is so high. It just goes to show you who is irresponsibly reporducing like rabbits nowadays.

I think it will happen, perhaps sooner than you think. As our knowledge increases more and more people will see how illogical the idea of god is.
