I LOVE! NYC and I want to move there when I am older. I love everything about it. I am in love with broadway, i love the traffic, the noise, and snow, and how alive it is. Is it different though when you live there compared to when you just go to visit for about a week? I loved Manhattan and also wanted to know how expensive it is to live there?
-Thnx! :]

YES! As a native, i can tell you that living here is much much harder than just being a tourist (then again, i was never a tourist here since its my home)

You will toughen up as well as become more savy, multi-cultured, socialable, and probably bi-lingual.

Its expensive here as so many people want to live here so be prepared to have a job and working alot. Cost of living is expensive too, however New Yorkers get paid very well compared to the rest of the nation

i recommend consistantly visiting NYC and researching online the rentals to see how much it will cost.

it is very expensive to live in Manhattan. Unless you have a really big bank account you are NOT getting on that island.

The surrounding boroughs have something more affordable to offer. Brooklyn is up and coming and real estate is at an all time high. Areas such as Bedford Stuyvesant and Bushwick have apartments/ lofts at affordable prices.

The only haggle is taking a 15 min train ride in, but everyone does that...the metrocard will become your best friend. In terms of safety, you would have to protect ya neck no matter where you live in NY...someone in rent once said "im a new yorker, fear is my life"

I've lived within 15 minutes of NYC most of my life.
Until I was 30 I had never been to the empire state building. I never went to the WTC and still haven't been to the statue of liberty.
I don't particularly care for the city. And I guess I feel that way because I've always been so close to it.
On the flip side, I love Washington, DC and Philly!
