Based on your question, I would think about junior college.

Cal State and UC have nothing to due with "Hands On" or not.

Both are excellent college systems.

UC is more prestigious and more challenging.
Cal State is still challenging but easier to get accepted.

Either way you need to have a GPA of over 3.0 and good SAT and ACT scores.

Additionally, to get accepted at either you need to complete
the A-G requirements in high school. These must all be in college prep classes that have been approved for A-G credit by the State UC system.

If all of this doesn't make a lot of sense, then get in to see your school counselor right away.

You can't just apply and get accepted. There is a whole series of step and classes and tests that you must take. Your school counselor can explain it.

It is a rare situation that a person who has been accepted at a Cal State school and a UC and would turn down the UC to attend Cal State.

Again, getting accepted at these schools is not an easy thing, so get in to see your counselor right away.

I started at CSULA, flunked out, USNavy, Community College, UCLA.

If I had it to do again, I would do community college to make sure I had my priorities straight concerning what I wanted to major in, then pick the better school depending on what I had choosen as my major. Or I might have gone straight into the service and made that my career.
