She is a two year old German Shepard, my 1 year old pit bull decided to tie with her on Sept. 3rd a few times my kids said (they thought they were playing lol), so she would be about a month now. She seems to be swelling around her teets, but her belly isnt really that much bigger. She is still eating normal, although more affectionate and sleeping a lot more. She is really swollen in her vulva area.
I figured out the dates and if she is she would be due around October 29th sometime.
I plan on taking her to the vet on the 17th (thats the soonest they can see her) but like to know something sooner. Should she be really noticeable at 1 month or is that too soon to tell? Any help would be great...
"Please no comments about spaying her - I dont mind her being pregnant and will be taken care of along with her babies"

Let's see, I know the date because I was at a funeral that day and the baby-sitter was watching the dogs and kids not me (the kids later that day told me what happened).
The puppy's and my dog's will be and are well taken care of. I am not worried about finding good homes for them as my family and I will be the ones with them all (this has already been figured out). I know what vet bills are as I have paid them many times in the past. I never said I couldnt afford them. Thats not an issue.
As far as leaving them alone together knowing they would mate - I was actually told by my vet just about 6 or 7 weeks ago that my male dog had not dropped yet therefore could not get the female pregnant.
I thought yahoo answers was for people to help each other, not to put down others and try and feel better then the next person?

I raise chihuahuas and they usually do not show much until about the 6th to 7th week. Our blue heeler was pregnant with 9 pups and you could hardly tell she was pregnant until about 2 weeks before they were born. The larger dogs do not look as big even if they are carrying large litters. At least not in my experience with them.

Well it is very likely that she is pregnant. One of the first early signs is swelling of the breasts. The stomach won't be noticeable until after the 5th or 6th week. Sometimes they will not eat a lot the first month. Actually, they might be quite sick and will eat less sometimes. They might also have morning sickness. Swollen vulva is definitely a good sign of pregnancy. Anyway, I hope everything goes fine with her pregnancy and she has healthy pups!!

I have a checklist for you which will determine if you are responsbile enough to breed.
1. I am aware that by breeding my female that I am risking her life.
2. My dog is show quality and AKC registered.(she has placed 3rd an up in a conformation show)
3. My female has gotten her genetic tests. She has no defects or health conditions.
4. I already have contacted people and found the puppies future homes before even mating my female. I will be sure that people who are buying dogs from me as simply companions will be sure to fix their new dogs.
5. I am prepared with a few thousand dollars(yes not a couple hundred but a couple THOUSAND) in emergency money just incase something goes wrong or my dog needs a C-section.
6. I have done all my reasearch and read many articles, how to breed.
7. I will call my vet if I have any concerns. I am willing to take my dog to the vet at least two times a month for ultra sounds and wellness checkups during pregnancy.
8. My female is 2-5 years old.
9. I plan to improove the breed I own and I will only breed my dog with dogs of the same breed. I will NOT breed my female with other breeds just to make them more appealing to consumers! Than indicates your a backyard breeder! so if your dog mated with another breed. SPAY.
10. I will be sure to only breed my dog four times, and afterwards I will spay her to eliminate health risks.
11. I am breeding simply because I love this breed and I would like to improove the breed and see it continue. I am not breeding to fill up my wallet, and am aware that in the end I will not end up making much money because of all the money I spent on care.
If you dont agree with this I suggest spaying your dog. ASAP before the pups grow too big in the womb. However if you are up to the challenge and have agreed to all things metioned than I say go ahead!

I would say wait another week or so then u will be able to tell...our dog didn't get big till 2 weeks b4 pups were born...it sounds like she is...do u know how to tell when she will have them....mind her body temp....take it 2 times a day.....when her body temp reaches 98degrees she will have them on that day or should I say night...they always have them at night...Gestation (pregnancy) in dogs lasts two months, or sixty days, give or take a day or two.

You know, there are no accidental breedings at all. You have 2 intact dogs and you should be bright enough to know to keep them apart when she cycles. She is at the wrong time in the pregnancy to check right now. You can palpate pups around 25 days, they feel like round hard balls. Then after another week, it is very hard to pick up puppies. If you want to know for sure, you can have a relaxin blood test done on her right now, it is very accurate after 25 days. Ultrasound could be done as well. X-rays will not show much right now. You can x-ray after 7 1/2 weeks. You really need to alter both of your dogs now! You are showing how irresponsible you are by intentionally having this mixed breed litter. You say that your kids saw the ties and not you. Don't you watch your own dogs? Please look at my question that I posted early this morning http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=An5Nidu7CyU8T5.xLybx.tvsy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071003231350AAZcwKf and then make sure that you have plenty of money saved up for emergencies. Make sure that you have the money to hand raise a litter if need be, money for worming and vaccinations. Money for good quality food for the pups, pups tend to eat more than an adult will.
Dee, if a dog whelps at 54 days the pups will most likely not survive. That is considered a preemie litter. Too early for the ***** to whelp. I had a c-section done on a ***** years ago at 54 days as the first 2 pups were dead and breaking down causing a uterine infection in the *****. I came home with 9 live pups out of 12 total and the *****. I lost the entire litter over the following 7 days. They were good size pups, but definately preemie's by their looks. I knew the exact date for the due date as she was only bred one time! 1 breeding is really all that is needed if it is done at the correct time in the bitches cycle.
I highly suggest that you get your female's hips and elbows x-rayed for OFA now. You can x-ray a ***** in whelp after 45 days. If you have plenty of money, then I suggest that you get this done now. If you have plenty of money, then why did you not neuter your male if his testicles have not dropped?? You do not worry that a male like this is more prone to testicular cancer???

That is really sad, one - that you would allow this to happen and two - that you are not upset by it. So many unwanted pets die daily, no hourly because people will not be responsible enough to do the right thing. Are the ones you already have vaccinated? On heart worm prevention? Flea control? A good quality food? You knew when you posted your questions that this was the response that you were going to get. SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS!
The pregnancy is 54 to 63 days.

You can have your dog x-rayed to confirm her pregnancy if it's in the later stage. At 10 days, the dog can be palpated by your vet to check if it's pregnant. Good luck!

You already know the answer, especially since you know the date they tied.
Her belly probably isn't that big because she hasn't been taken care of.
At least you will eventually take her to the vet....
''I dont mind her being pregnant '''
No, this is what you hoped for. At least be responsible enough to take care of her and the pups. I hope you can find homes for them with decent caring people....

Please get both of them fixed asap. The world doesn't need more puppies. Thousands are killed each day because there are too many.
