All car companies are giving good deals right now, cars are not selling well and they want to clear the 2007 models to make room for the 2008.

I come from a long line of Dodge drivers. I have never had any major problems (aside from the head gaskets in the 2.2 and 2.5L's that I have owned, not a bad fix after its done a replacement gasket is designed differently, and solves the problem), I have put probably well over 1 000 000km total in the Dodges I have owned.
I work in a garage, and its Dodge that I see coming in with the highest milage (aside fromt the Ford Triton engine series). Its not uncommon for me to see a Caravan with 400 000km on the odometer. I rate these vehicles as highly reliable. True they have had some problems in the past, and are currently working on trouble spots (like what was mentioned, the Transmission). If you don't drive it like you stole it, the transmission will last you, its the engine is being to powerful to be mated to the transmsions they use that causes the problems.
I have owned everything from K-cars, and Caravelles, to Caravans, Dakotas and Rams. I have worked on hundreds of Dodge products and probably 2 out of 10 coming into the shop are for repair, and probably 1 out of 20 are something thats not (lack of) maintance related. Every company you buy from will have trouble spots in thier vehicles, but in recent years, the big 3 (Chrysler, Ford and GM) have made huge strides forward in quality and longevity (Buick surpassed Lexus not so long ago in vehicle reliability, and Ford surpassed Toyota in initial vehicle quality, about a month before that). Chrysler hasn't been lucky enough to defete an import giant yet, but they have been a leader in vehicle ideas for as long as I can remember.
I work with a technician who worked for Dodge, and he said he would buy a new one when his 1986 New Yorker dies, because of thier relibility. Thats saying something coming from a guy who works and fixes them all day at a dealer.

My family's owned more than seven Dodges in the last 20 years, and with the exception of ONE (that was bought used and ill-maintained before we bought it, unbeknownst to us) they've all been gems - we are running three right now. I personally am on my second Dodge - went from a 1993 Shadow (got to 119K miles and a microchip in the tranny went - would've cost $2000 to fix) to a 2002 Stratus, after test-driving more than 50 different vehicles. Those that I could afford were grossly underpowered. (Including the Toyota Camry, Honda Accord and Civic, Ford Mustang 4 cyl, and the Mitsubishi Galant.) As my Toyota-driving brother put it, "What that car lacks in style it makes up for in power." (DUH.) All I've done is routine maintence on them. The most expensive things I've EVER done up until the end of the Shadow, on either one is tires.
The ONLY one I'd stay away from are the Neons. They're among the lowest in safety ratings. And have WEAK 4 cyls. My Shadow had a 2.5 L 4 cyl and was a ROCKET. (I street raced it a couple of times - imagine the surprise of those Acura and Honda owners when I beat the pants off of them! I also beat a Ford salesman's Mustang that he was trying to sell me after I told him it was weak.) My Stratus has a small 6cyl in it and can get out of it's own way. (And one of the first cars I drove was a '69 Pontiac Bonneville with a 427, 4 barrel, 8 cyl. Got one mile to the gallon but could kick the *ss of any little Rice Rocket out there!)

I currently own a 1998 Dodge I bought new, and so far it has been very reliable. However I do take care of the vehicle. I think that no matter the make, if you follow the manufacturers maintenance schedule, you will have a reliable vehicle.

heres the straight poop no bias on the new chrysler dodge jeep warranty. ALL internal engine components ( not including belts electrical or pumps of any kind), all transfer cases, all transmissions, drive line including u joints, and differentials are covered. there is no fine print, no hidden clauses, no deductables, no copays of any kind. even if you put 1,000,000 miles a year on the vehicle all you have to do to keep your warranty in force is take it in for a FREE inspection every 5 years. the warranty is not transferable so if you sell the vehicle the warranty ends. and the guy that says don't buy a dodge must be a ford owner (poor bastard). theres no funny stuff in this warranty its pure and simple the best warranty in the business and its not just to sell cars its because daihmler-benz/serberus believe they make the best built car, truck, vans, and suvs in the world and are willing to back it up with the best warranty in the world. no auto manufacturer in the world has a warranty that even comes close to this one. go drive a dodge chrysler or jeep and see for your self. the proof is in the puddin as they say.

Lifetime warranty means they want to sell cars and this is a good way to do it. Chrylser makes nice looking cars, but I'm not sold on their quality. I had a '97 Neon that needed a head gasket with less than 30k because it was leaking, that is pretty bad; I'd steer clear of Chrylser. I would go to Toyota or Honda before going to Dodge, or if you want an American car, I'd go Ford or Chevy.

STOP ! Don't buy a Dodge ! I had one and had to get my transmission repaired 4 times in 2 years. They know how to solve the cause but according to them there aren't enough claims yet to fix the problem.Go Figure ?
The paint also peels and supposed to be under warrenty but they tell you they can't repaint it because they will tell you that its an enviromental problem which isn't covered.
