Well, sure. We wouldn't be human if we didn't have some fear of dying. I don't have any sort of irrational or abnormal fear of it, though.
I guess I could say that my fear lies more with the act of *dying* then what comes after death. I figure once I'm dead, I won't know the difference.

This is a great question. I am an agnostic too. I think EVERYONE has a certain amount of apprehension about dying, some more than others (Woody Allen for example!) but some Christians will say they are not afraid bc they know where they are going...I think that is a load of crap. They don't really know, NO one does.
I am a bit afraid, but I temper my fear by remembering that we all go through it together, that it happens to everyone the same, and that there is nothing we can do about it anyhow so we might as well swim naked in the warm waters off the coast of Costa Rica while we are alive bc we will all probably be dead for a very long time.
Blessings,

Agnostic here, but it is my considered opinion that every person who has sentience is afraid of dying to some degree. Some allow it to rule their lives and some do not. I think my fears are centered around the decline before a natural death--pain, the decay of a living body and mind, that sort of thing. One gets used to having a certain level of being and vehicle to interact with the physical world. It is tough to think about losing that, but I know I eventually will. Personally, I would prefer to die without foreknowledge of it, suddenly, perhaps accidentally, an illness that does not linger, something like that. It is the despair that can set in when one knows one is dying that worries me. I fear I would not have the mental strength to face a long decline. Whatever comes after death I've always been most curious about, but I'm not gonna go through life saying "are we there yet?"

Hey Paulo, I have some news for you! I am dying of emphysema, and I am not in the least afraid of dying! Compared to the fear I felt as a christian, the peace of mind I have now as an atheist, is the difference between day and night!
So, stop running your mouth about what a sect of people think or don't think! Feel, or don't feel! because I can guarantee you are talking out of the wrong side of your...... face

I used to be Christian. When I was, I was scared of dying. Now I'm agnostic/atheist. I am no more or less afraid of death than I was before.

Maybe a little. I think that everyone is scared of death, at least subconsciously. It's human nature to fear what we don't understand.
I read a book by a famous psychologist where he wrote that he believes that all humans have a certain amount of "death anxiety" and we try to hide this in our subconscious because we don't want to face this fear. When our subconscious fails to keep this anxiety hidden away, it manifests itself as nightmares or day terrors. I thought that was interesting.
Death isn't something I like to think about too much, and I don't worry about it now because I'm still young, but I think that the fear grows as we get older. This is why many people turn to religion late in life. After all, this is one of the reasons that man invented religion in the first place, to explain things we can't understand like death.

I'm not an atheist, but I'm certainly not a Christian, and no, I'm not.
Your question though seems to presuppose that an atheist believes that there is necessarily nothing after death. You suppose wrong. Some atheists believe there is nothing after death, but certainly not all of them have this belief; some are quite religious! There are Buddhists, who do not believe in a God. There are also many quite spiritual atheists. I think you really need to look at what the word "atheist" does and does not mean.

No, not really....I've lived a good life, I've lived a happy life....
The only circumstance I would be scared of dying would be if I had a child, then as any loving doting parent I would worry about the safety and well-being of that child, but since I don't have one, nope....dying is not an issue.....

Yes, because there is so much more to do in this world. So many places to see. So many accomplishments your grandchildren will make that you won't be around to see.
But, isn't it better to die first, before your children?
Oh well, Lena Horne is singing, I'll sit back and contemplate the joy of life, knowing that death is natural, nothing to fear.
