I'm joining the Army once I graduate to be a 68W (medic) and am hoping to go in as an E-2 or E-3. How can I make this happen?

Talk to your recruiter. This can written directly into your enlistment contract and would be honored upon completion of some milestone, normally boot camp. That's for E-2. I'm a little unsure if the same applies for getting E-3. Again, your recruiter would know the ins and outs for the particular MOS or program you're enlisting for.

I'm going to assume that you're joining after high school, since you didn't specify what you're graduating from. Obviously, then, an AA isn't in your near future. If you're joining after you graduate college though, you should get an E-4 (I think) automatically.

If you haven't signed an enlistment contract yet, ask your recruiter about the stripes for buddies program. If you get a friend to join you can come in as an E-2, and if you get two friends to enlist you can come in as an E-3. If you have a really awesome recruiter though, or you're just an all around squared away person that your recruiter can't afford to lose, you can probably talk him into just putting down two names of random recruits he already has (and save your friends from your verbally harassing them to join the military) on your paper so you get the E-3.

There are incentives for length of service, completion of your first training command, having an associates degree or bachelor's degree and few other weird ones. You have to get these in writing BEFORE you join. You recruiter knows about them and can steer you to the paperwork but you have to be a pain in the butt about it. A recruiter gets no incentive if you join as an E-1 or and E-6 but it will take more time and will be a hassle for him or her. Force the issue! Do not sign the dotted line until you have what you want. You should at least enter as an E-2 and be guaranteed E-3 upon the completion of school. If not, threaten not to join or threaten to go to another service. You will be surprised how much they will work with you to give you some extra benefits.

There is a test my hubby took right before he left for BCT. Ask your recruiter about it. It consisted of being able to tell military time, knowing the ranks & insignia, knowing the Army alphabet, & for him reading a map (he is an engineer). The last one I don't know if that would apply to you.

College.....
With an associates degree you can enter as an E-3
With a bachelors degree, E-4
You cannot come in the military as an E-5 and up. Those ranks must be earned once you are in.

well, I know I'm getting in as a E-3 with only a year of JR OTC experience in high school, its mainly up to your recruiter, since there the one that can make it happen, you will just have to talk to them about it and see if it can happen, just let the recruiter know your serious about making it work.
