Dear brother, there are 2 kinds of zakat in islamic taxes. The first one is zakat for your mom's wealth including zakat for her gold if it is more than 85 grams and it has been held for at least 1 year. The second is zakat of your mom's income as her salary, her profit of her business or income of her agriculture.Zakat maal from her wealth should be paid once a year, but it can be paid also monthly by dividing its zakat into 12.The zakat of income should be paid when your mother received it monthly for salary or maybe quaterly for agricul ture income and yearly for the profit of a business..But like for zakat maal, the zakat of business profit can be spread out into 12 for monthly payment based on estimation.

either way is ok. If you live in a Islamic country, and there is a place to give zakat, give it all at once. Its easier.

i did'nt get your question. are you asking if she can give the entire gold she has away as zakat? my brother these things are pertaining to ahkaam-e-shariat, please do not ask such questions from ordinary muslims like us who have very little knowledge of our rights and duties. you should put this question before a mufti as he has knowledge backed by authority on issues pertaining to rights and duties of a muslim.

I don't think it matters, as long as it the right percentage and applied on the right amount. Those are harder to figure out.
