You compete for yourself. NOT your parents. Go to win. Go to learn. Go to have fun. Do NOT go for your parents.

Competing takes time, experience, and as someone also has said a lot of dedication and training. It also is helpful if you are doing it for yourself.

When I first started competing I was not very good but knew I could do better. It took me a few years before I finally started to get over things like butterflies and being able to think and concentrate properly as well as train properly for competition. I might also add that I was an athlete in high school but even that experience was inadequate for competition in martial arts. I can give you a dozen or so helpful things that I have learned through my years of competition if you drop me an e-mail and there are a few questions that I have responded to that you may want to check out concerning this.

Hi there

One thing that i always insisted on when i was competing was that none of my family members be present. Wife's, girlfriends, mums, dads, Husbands and boyfriends are all definite no no's. I have seen it happen too many times when emotions run high which can then take your mind off getting the job done. Have the rest of your club there to motivate you but leave the loved ones at home. You can tell always explain to them later what happened or get someone to film the event so they don't miss out on the good stuff! Train for yourself and only compete when you want to.

Best wishes

Did you try your best? Have you worked on whatever your weakenesses were? Then you didn't disappoint your parents.
There are only a few trophies and a lot of competitors. Somebody wins, somebody loses. That's the way it works.

Hardware is nice, but better to know that you did the best you could and now you have a new goal - to work harder and do even better.

Study the rules, use it, remember it is a sport.

Study yourself, know your own strength and weakness. You must approach the competition like a carpenter, know how to use your tools and sharpen it.

Study your opponent, understand the relation between you and her. Can you defeat your opponent/s with pure intent and determination, to hit her hard in the face or liver, regardless what she might do to you? Or can you use guile to hit without getting hit?

Study with your allies, your instructor and mates. Get them to help you to prepare to the best you can be.

Use the fear of disappointment to motivate you on. If you can't keep a negative thought out of your head, then you must use it to fuel your fire to drive ahead. Good luck!

Do your best is all anyone can ask of you in a tournament you should be proud just to compete. Never mind what people think of how you did as long as you gave it your all.

disapoint your parents as in lose, or disapoint your parents in spending so much money.

if its lose, then train harder, prove to you parents you can win

if its money, get a job.
