If it's sincere, then it's not a stupid question.
BUT if its a question that is VERY old (such as any retelling of Pascal's Wager, or my favorite, "If we evolved from monkeys, why are there still monkeys?" question) then it is stupid, because you have a myriad of precedents, and if it IS to annoy me or anything as such, then yes, it is stupid.
And no, this is not a stupid question for several reasons:
1.) This is the first time (I) saw this question.
2.) You are not being spiteful.
3.) You are not acting ignorant or arrogant.
Just to name a few. Hope this helps!!! ^_^

It depends on the category as to whether or not the question would be stupid. I consider stupid questions to be those when someone turns right around and asks the same thing that your were just talking about! It happens all the time on tours and at lectures.

Because most people are like parrots and blindly repeat what they were taught, never once questioning why they believe it. Does poo smell any sweeter than sh!t? Hell no, they describe the EXACT same thing, yet many people get their panties in a knot because they are parrots and don't think for themselves. A lot of it is simply due to discrimination. Take the word sh!t for example. It was once commonly used by the lower class people, but the snotty upper class didn't want to be associated with them so they labeled it taboo and used their own word to describe a natural bodily function.

My father always said there was no such thing as a stupid question. Of course he's never been on YA either.

No I do not believe there are no stupid questions because one of the true stupid question is the one never asked. and the other is a question to which you already know the answer to!

I believe that there can be no "stupid question", and that satisfying one's curiosity by asking questions is good for the soul. .. HOWEVER ... It can be a stupid quesition when that one question goes to far by going into personal matters that someone has no right to know or have no need to know.
There, one could say "As stupid is as stupid does".

I think that saying was designed to protect peoples feelings. I would rather people understand that there are stupid questions, but that not asking condemns one to ignorance, while asking stupid questions at least demonstrates that one is aware of their own ignorance, and open to knowledge.

One of my favorite bosses used to say, "The only stupid questions are the ones that don't get asked."
But this was before Yahoo Answers came along!

Some questions are stupid, but we just need to have extra grace with people who ask them

It's not the question, it's the person asking the question. Some people are cool and ask real questions. Others are buttheads that want to piss you off. Your question was cool by me.
