I just put 2 drops of those k-9 advantix on my dog's neck, and it looks like I have give him another bath again tonight since he's so irritated by it. Will the flea med still work if I give him a bath today, or should I wait until tomorrow??
Thanks in advance

No it won't work if you wash him today, you have to wait 48 hours. Still, if it's bothering him I would wash it off and then apply Frontline or Revolution in another 48 hours. Make sure it gets on his skin, not on his fur.

When you say 2 drops, what does that mean? Do you mean two drops from the whole applicator or two applicators? Generally, it shouldn't irritate the dogs skin. Also, general rule for Advantix or Frontline is 3 days before and after the application, you shouldn't bathe the dog. If the skin problem gets worse, he maybe allergic to Advantix. You need to take him to the vet.

every dog is different. the dog i have used the same product on, was not irritated by it. make sure that if you do give your dog a bath (the med will still be effective after 24 hrs) that it is a mild shampoo without pesticides. your dog is obviously sensitive and so i recommend an oatmeal bath and mild conditioner. unless your dog has an extreme skin condition, i do not recommend bathing more often than every 4 weeks. another great product that will probably work better than the advantix is Revolution. i do not put much faith in Frontline unless you treat your entire yard every month and make sure your dog doesn't get into any flea infested areas in the neighborhood. all that is too much trouble. revolution has always worked the best for me and it prevents heartworms which is a plus.

I asked my vet the same question and she said wait a total of two days before bathing your dog.

I also think that it irritated my dogs skin, but she is a boxer and has horrible allergies, so it is hard for me to say if the K9 advantix was the real cause of her problem.

After applying topical flea control you have to wait 24 hours for your dog to have a bath or go swimming or it inactivated the advantix by washing it off. Talk to your vet for alternate products such as Frontline Plus.

You should wait and be careful of the shampoo you use check with the vet and maybe they can tell you what kind is best. Check the weight the advantix it has different dosages for the weight

Since you already use the Benadryl (works well for my dog's occasional allergies and/or random itches) and you invested in a good vet-recommended flea prep. like Revolution or similar(sorry can't remember names but we have only been successful with preparations around $50-$60.00 (and I am a miserly spender .... tried several cheaper ones from pet stores too) Anyway I really think you should raise the Benadryl dose a little at a time and keep a close eye on your dog (of course) and simultaneously to stop the chewing behaviour get one of those cone collars for around her/his neck/head (you've seen these things usually after neutering or spaying, if you don't have one, try borrowing or get used one, new ones only $15.00 or so.). So that the chewing doesn't continue to irritate the skin. Try to take her on walks/drives or anything to distract her from irritation and perhaps you can overwhelm it from happening if there's no further irritation from chewing. (Oh, they look so forlorn in those collars but it saved us from loosing our minds one winter and will prevent you from much worse later on - our pup licked untill it was bleeding slightly and inflamed but our Dr. told us the case was mild) Good luck!

This article might interest you and will show you how spot on flea and tick 'prevention' can cause major harm to your dog over time. Some of them cause immediate and long term damage and some have caused death in many pets as well.
Make informed decisions and don't rely on anyone else to tell you the truth about these kinds of things.

Some animals will be sensitve/allergic to the medications in the flea/tick preventatives. If his skin becomes reddened, hot to the touch, itchy and he develops hives/rash then you will need to wash off the medication. I would suggest using a mild, soothing shampoo such as oatmeal. The advantix will be washed off and it will not provide any flea/tick protection , so you will need to try another kind on him such as revolution or frontline.

I would wait until tommorrow ,or at least 12 hrs to let the medication help a little. If it still seems to bother him give him a bath and call the vet.Dont use flee shampoo if his skin is irratated though.
