why do we allow different standards for woman cops? seriously if we are supposed to believe cops have a hard job how can a 5-2 120 point barbie be a cop? seriously all this does is lead to things like that lesbian tasing incident at university of florida.

What info is this based on?

As far as I recall, all of the physical and academic standards at the police academy (in California at least) are the same. The requirements for passing the Field Training Program are the same.

If you are asking about size and weight differences, that is a different question. There are small male officers too. There are large female officers. What's most important is, can they do the job? If they are working, they have pr oven they can.

I wonder how every woman who works as an officer is instantly labeled as a lesbian. I would assume it is because of their 'butch' or 'manly' appearance. Well, the uniform may be part of the cause. There are plenty very feminine women in the military, wearing uniforms designed for a man, and that doesn't lead to sweeping generalizations that all women in the military are lesbians. Anyway, if they were, wouldn't the conclusion be that they were the 'men' in their relationships. then, if so, wouldn't that just make them one step closer to being the man you want in uniform? Just a question.

Anyone who knows anything about this will tell you that female officers bring, in general, a different aspect to law enforcement. They tend to be more verbally persuasive in order to compensate for less upper body strength. But other than that general comment, each officer is an individual with strengths and weaknesses which they recognize and work with every day.

I would follow a competent female officer just as I would a competent male officer. Sex aside, our goal is a common one and I have the utmost respect for ANYONE willing to step into harms way for the greater good of all.

If the only tool you have is a hammer, then every problem is a nail.

Having both men and women of different races and cultures better enables an agency to deal with a wide variety of problems.

The tasing incident in Florida was completely justified. Would you rather he get in a fight with an officer and end up with broken bones or other injuries?

When I went through my academy every woman was held to the same standard as a man. We had just as many men drop out as we did women. I know a 5-2 120 pound barbie and she will take on a 200 pound monster as quickly as her male counter parts. There are times when it is better to have a woman take a call such as a female victim of domestic violence.

They still need woman cops for many things.

-Patting down female suspects. More than likely, the slime being patted down would jump a fake claim that she was being felt up 'extra' if the male cop did it. It's not like they switch to nice though for a female cop, they're still all pissy but they can't complain.

Female cops are only good when they're as b!tchy and scary as Judge Judy or something..

I saw an episode of cops and the lady walked up to a fight and in 3 seconds she ended up on the floor, unable to get up.. She was a cop.. on the ground.. the person could have taken her gun or tazer. It was pitiful.

But female cops are brave.. I give them that..

I do believe I will get a ton of thumbs down but, right or wrong, here is my answer.....

Women in traditional male roles (police, fire fighters & soldiers) are a bad idea. We are NOT built to take on a 200 lb man in a tussle, nor are we built to carry out a 200 lb man from a burning building. In combat we are an easy target with many more breaking points than men. We are emotional creatures, nurturers and while we may be as intelligent or more intelligent than men, I do not believe our psyche can handle all the extremes that such jobs require.

Cops do different types of things. Sometimes a woman is more appropriate that a man to do some police work.

Long as they can pass the same physical test I have no problem with it. Though of the female officers I worked with during my time in law enforcement there was only one I would trust to have my back. She was one hell of an officer.

We don't have different standards. They all have to pass the same tests to get on the force. She might look like Barbie, but she can definitely kick your ***.

such a sexist comment.
those "barbies" as you like to call them, go through the same testing and courses males go through, no exceptions!
size doesnt matter, there are techniques you learn and can take down anyone despite their size. there are no prissy barbie girls in law enforcement, they're strong women who can hold their own (dont get it twisted, we arn't "butch's" either, i'm sure there are some, but just because a women is in a "males job field" doesnt mean she thinks of herself as manly. they join to police for the same reason, to help people.
Maybe one day you'll open your eyes and see that women cops are just as good as men officers, and you'll probably have one save your butt somewhere down the road too.

I had a female partner for 2 years, she never backed down, and was not even close to being "butch" or a barbie.
