the amp should not be much higher than the speakers in terms of watts. For example 2 12inch 500Watt RMS will work with a 500-600W RMS Mono Class D amp. i would recommend 2 10s with a nice Hifonics Mono clss D amp. You bridge a 2 channel amp to make it into one by putting the two red(+) wires together and plugging them into one terminal and the same for black(-) if you get a Mono Class D there will be no need for bridging.

if you want sound quality, then look at my best answer on a simliar question, its a great deal on not o.k. equipment, but on great equipment...way better than teh mtx road thunder... the sub alone retails for 300... your buget is actualy a bit higher so i recomend this amp. http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=3739

RMS power of teh amp should equal or be less tahn the RMs of the speakers total, @ the same load (ohm's) bridging a amp is a proccess of combining two channels into one, this makes th amp more effiecient to a given, load. there is not right or wrong way, it is simply a method to add versatility to a amplifier, it gives it multiple configurations. I guess manufactures do this because equipment is often switched around and moved from vehicalk to vehical. really just worry about your system matching for what you want to do today.

I'd be looking more for a fishing rod to catch a bass. Maybe some worms, too. Speakers never helped me catch any.

i would look into tubes, you can get them amplified or not and you can start with 1 and add them as your budget allows.
