I want to be a singer but can't afford singing lessons. Someone told me it would be best if I enter festivals and competitions so does anyone know where I could find one?

You would need to search in your area, either online or in your local papers to see if there is even a fesitval near you. Also search for singing contests or open mike contests.

I would reccomend getting a lot of practice before performing. If this is something you want to do as a career you should invest in the lessons.

I agree with what vocal Guru said, also consider the ISC international songwriting competition. One of my dad's students won the jazz genre about three or four years back. I'm assuming your write lyrics, they have a lyrics category and if you cannot afford singing lessons or recording music here's another alternative.

Check out other songwriting competitions as well... google or yahoo "songwriting competitions"

www.SingersConnect.net has online competitions every once in awhile, actually I think there is one right now and the signup deadline is October 8.
