Some men are manipulative, selfish, and self-absorbed in their own desires and whims. Some who cheat are looking for conditions that are only right for them. Once they find a place and a woman who would be willing to be manipulated to the point of pampering them like their mothers would, a cheater will cheat no matter who the "mother"-partner is, regardless whether or not of her character (which, by the way, would have to be exemplery & would most likely require an abundance of patience to begin with.). Unfortunately, the woman partner probably exhibited characters much like a nurturing mother would--doting, loving, would serve on hand and foot. His character is the one in question as once a cheat always a cheater, once a manipulator, always a manipulator..and so on. Regardless of who is female partner is or was, he is a man who is or would be destined to cheat regardless of his circumstances. Acquaint it with a disease, if you will.

1) Variety is the spice of life.

2) They are in a relationship that is just a holding pattern for them.

3) The other one is only available for a limited time and they don't want the window of opportunity to close before they have their chance.

4) The thrill is in the chase and not the apprehension.

5) Revenge for infidelity.

6) Revenge for anything that they can blame on you.

7) To fill a need that they don't feel is being met.

8) The challenge of not getting caught.

9) Just to try on the new thing without having to buy.

10) To see how many notches can be added to a bedpost.

11) Boredom.

12) Lonelyness (even while attached to somone else).

13) No fear of repercussions from partner.

14) Following recomendations of a friend.

16) Under the influence of a judgement impairing substance.

17) No morals.

18) One of their parents set an example by being a cheater.

19) The crowd they run with practices this behavior on a regular basis.

20) The President did it so it must be ok for me.

21) Looking for a more desirable partner.

22) Not avoiding situations where the probability is great that opportunities will present themselves and not having the internal fortitude to resist such overwhelming temptations.

23) Overwhelming ,once in a lifetime opportunities, present themselves unexpectedly such as two very pretty ones want to play sandwich with you both at the same time and want you to be the meat.

Fellows, additions to the list?

I'm not a cheater. It's not my style. I like a nice one on one kind of thing myself.

Best Wishes

I've never cheated before, personally, but from what I gather, here are a few possible reasons.
a) Their needs, whether it be emotional or physical are no longer met by their wives. This could be due to some unresolved conflict or estrangement between the two. Sometimes, it could be neither's fault. They just experience a down in their relationship.
b) Mid-life crisis. A desire to live out one's youth again may cause one to cheat with a young person.
c) He didn't watch his heart. When one gets intimate with the opposite sex, there is a danger of sexual attraction because you feel good with this person.
d) In a few cases, the guy is addicted to women. This type doesn't usually stay attached to one for long unless the girl is really special and even then may not stay faithful, sleeping around and running back into her arms, begging for forgiveness. This sort of thing has a deep root. Could be insecurity, distrust of ever having a serious relationship, etc.
e) Another common problem now is that affairs are becoming more and more socially acceptable. Commitment is joked about as a burden and faithful marriage as hell.

Usually, in an affair, there is more than one factor involved in the cause. Whatever the case, whether man or woman, whatever the sexual orientation, cheating just creates more trouble than it's worth.

It takes a long time to develop integrity and to realize the importance of commitment. Mistakes may be made along the path to self-actualization. I think some obstacles include the following:
1) There is always temptation and we don't live in a vacuum.
2) Unresolved anger and grief relating to your spouse.
3) Poor self-esteem - men fall so easily to temptation.
4) Failing to understand boundaries and expectations.
5) Curiosity and needing to experiment with life's mystery.
6) Simple boredom and disappointment with ones life.
7) Lack of understanding regarding biological urges.
8) Having a strong drive to experience something mystical about yourself and other people.
9) Lack of cooperative spiritual focus within the primary relationship.

Those are the things which come to mind off the top of my head. Hope I was helpful.

I've never cheated nor ever would, but I have a theory aobut why men or anybody cheats. From a biological/evolutionary standpoint, we want to spread of genes to as many different other humans as possible to improve our species. However as humans, we also have the ability to control ourselves so there is no reason why we should cheat, but this is why I think we do.

When a man cheats on a woman, it is USUALLY not due to emotional reasons. A man can love his girlfriend/ wife, but physically we fantasize getting pleased by some other woman once or multiple times. It doesn't mean we care about them or care any less about our S.O., it simply means we're really horny.

Biologically, men were created to procreate. Back in caveman days, the man the had the most sex had the increased likelihood of spreading his seed & continue his lineage. Nowadays, male's mind's and body are still wired like this; this need to be promiscuous. Mentally, the male minds thinks about sex about every 5 - 10 seconds, keeping these urges under control is EXTREMELY difficult.

Biologically, a male has millions upon millions of sperm inside them, constantly creating more. However in the female body, I believe they are born with only 400,000 eggs to be fertilized and they are born with all the eggs they will ever have in their entire life (a.k.a. they don't make more like men do). With the biologically incentive to have as much sex as we can, men constantly feel inclined to be pleased physically as much as possible.

Now, there are multiple reasons why men cheat. But overall, biologically we are inclined to have sex with as many different women as much as possible. So for some men, one women does not fulfill that inborn need. For others, maybe their "means the world to them" girl emotionally DOES mean the world to them, but physically she may not be as active and so he feels deprived, which will make him possibly go insane. Since his girl does not physically love him as much, a man cannot simply shut down that part of who he is, so he looks elsewhere for a temporary mate to fulfill his hormonal search of release from his sexual prison within himself.

The want for something new maybe. Or possibly something that was once in the relationship and now not?

I don't know, but if I was ever offered the chance to cheat, my girl would be on my mind, preventing me from doing so :]

Think there has been all sorts of investigation into this one, from the fact that us men are genetically programmed to spread our genes far and wide (look at MOST of the rest of the animal world like lions, dogs, etc), to the fact that women seem to let themselves go (physically) once they don't feel the need to attract a mate anymore.

Personally, I have found women to be AT LEAST as promiscuous and cheating as men. You're just better at hiding it and not getting found out.

If they feel they can get away with it, they will do who they can when they can as much as they can. It's just in the nature of the beast for some, thinking they have something that the woman of the moment may want or need thinking the woman finds them attractive to them for something they did or how they look or whatever.

many reasons.

men are never satisfied, no matter what we have, we want more.

men are supposed to be the hunter, the conquerer.

to prove we can.

im 47, single, i was just with a 20 year old. if i was married to the best woman in the world, i would have cheated. she is young enough to be my daughter. i may never get the chance again. it means i still got it.

and reason number 1,

a drum roll please,

women like a man who cheats.
get mad all you want. turn blue, stomp your foot.
look around at all the women dating attached men. if you are not with someone, they dont want you.
